CATHETER-USERS TRAVELING APPARATUS.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1. James F. SPALDING, citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Catheter-Users Traveling Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to catheter users traveling apparatus; and my object is to provide new and useful apparatus of this character which may be conveniently can ried in a hand-case, and whereby persons aiiiicted with certain bladder disorders may readily treat themselves without assistance from a nurse, while en route, or at home.

The apparatus includes a number of cooperative elements, whereby the contents of the bladder can be readily drawn off and the bladder washed out.

The apparatus further includes means to sterilize the catheters which are introduced into the bladder through the urethral passage, preparatory to emptying, and washing out the bladder. v

In order that the invention may be fully understood, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the apparatus in position for use. Fig. 2 is a plan view of an extensible cap-band, forming part of the apparatus. F ig. 3 is a side elevation of said cap-band. Fig. 1 is a cross section on line IVIV of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is an inverted plan view of the cap-band vizor.

In carrying out the invention I employ a head-piece consisting of an extensible capband 1, having a sleeve 2 at one end through which its opposite end may freely slide, so that said band may be drawn up or let out to accommodate different sized heads. Sleeve 2 is provided with a thumb-screw 3, to engage the free portion 41 of the band to lock the same in any of its adjusted positions. Cap-band 1. which consists preferablv of spring metal, has a lining 5 for comfort of the wearer, and said cap-band is provided at a point diametrically opposite thumb-screw 3, with a knob 6, which in con nection with said thumb-screw forms a convenient hold when placing the cap-band in position upon the head.

8, so that said vizor may be folded to the inoperative position shown by dotted lines, or extended for use as shown by full lines Fig. 2-, and when extended is retained in alineinent with the cap-hand by its downturned rear portion 9 abutting against the loop 10 at the front side of said cap-band, and to which the lower portions of hinges r are secured. Vizor 7 is provided at its upper forward portion with a spring-actuated spool 11, fixed to a shaft 12, journaled in a frame 13 and adapted to be rotated in one direction to wind a chain or cable 14 thereon by means of a spiral-spring 15 secured at one end to shaft 12, and at its opposite end to a barrel 16, fixed to frame 13.

Cable 14- is attached at its upper end to spool 11, and at its lower end to a catheter clasp 17, adapted, when not in use, to be held between the vizor and a hook 18. secured to the underside of said vizor, see F igs. 8 and 5. Frame 13 is inclosed in a hood 19, secured to the top of the vizor.

2O designates a yoke consisting of a pair of hangers 21 and a loop 22, which latter is adapted to support a urinal 30.

36 designates a catheter sterilizing cup provided with a lid 37, and normally held in a receptacle 38 adapted to be removably secured to one of the hangers 21 when in the position shown in Fig. 1.

41 designates a small supply case adapted to be removably secured to the curved portion of the opposite hanger 21 when in the position shown in Fig. 1.

62 designates a metallic catheter tube case for holding a glass catheter tube (not shown). The open end of said catheter tube case 62 is provided with a hinged lid 6 1.

72 designates a telescopic standard which is held in upright position when in use by an extensible leg-band 7 7, and a stirrup 78, which latter is provided with a socket 79 to receive the lower end of the standard. The upper end of the telescopic standard 72 is provided with a hook 86, and a book 87, one of which is adapted to support a hotwater bag A, the other being adapted to support the nozzle B on tube C, leading from the bag, when said nozzle is not in use.

In practice, the user seats himself with the apparatus assembled in position, as shown in Fig. 1, and may proceed to use the several elements in the following order: A towel E is first removed from the supply case 41 and secured upon the lap of, the user, a catheter D is next suspended from the catheter clasp 17; the meatus and both hands are then thoroughly disinfected; lubricant is then applied to the meatus and the suspended catheter to facilitate the introduction of the catheter into the bladder through the urethral passage: the free end of the catheter is now introduced into the bladder, its upper end being removed from the clasp 17,

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. In an apparatus of the character described, an extensible cap-band, a folding vizor carried thereby, and means carried by said vizor to support a catheter.

2. In an apparatus of the character described, an extensible cap-band, a vizor on said cap-band, and adjustable means carried by said vizor to support a catheter.

8. In an apparatus of the character described, a cap-band, a vizor, hinges connecting said vizor to the cap-band, and means carried by said vizor to support a catheter.

I. In an apparatus of the character described, an adjustable cap-band, a. vizor having a downturned rear end adapted to abut the front side of said cap-band, hinges con- 5 necting said vizor to the cap-band, and means carried by said vizor to support a catheter.
