OSCAR KATZENBERGER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. p
ALINING-PLATE FOR FLOORHIl\TG-ES.
Appiicauoa sied .Tune s, 1915. serial No. 31,851.
To all yri/wm t may concern:
Be it lnown that I, OsoAR KATZENBERGEP., a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook andv Another object in view is to provide a simple strong alining plate which may be adjusted after the door hinges and alining plate have all been placed in position.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a fragmentary side view partly in section of a door, hinge and associated parts, together with an alining plate embodying the invention; Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the alining plate, the spring shaft being shown in section; Fig. 3 is a section through Fig. 2 on line 3 8.
Referring to the accompanying drawings by numerals, 1 indicates a door post of any suitable construction and 2 a door arranged adjacent the post 1. Door 2 is provided with a floor hinge 3 for normally holding the door 2 in a neutral position and return the same to such position when moved therefrom. The hinge 3 in order to properly act is provided. with a stationary shaft l which is squared at 5 near the bottom and also upset or riveted at 6 for holding certain parts of the alining plate in position.
The alining plate is provided with a base 7 formed with a plurality of apertures 8 through which screws or other means rare passed for securing the base 7 to the flooring. Base 7 is provided with a comparatively large opening 9 in which is arranged a washer 10 having a plurality of ears or lugs 11 overlapping the under surface of the base 7. .Arranged on the upper face of plate 7 is an adjustable plate 12 provided with upturned ears or stops 13 and 14. Set screws 15 and 16 are arranged to engage the stops 13 and 1st, said set screws being` mounted in the posts 17 and 18, which posts are riveted'to the base 7 as more clearly shown in Fig. 3.
The squared portion 5 of shaft 4 lits the corresponding squared aperture in the adjustable plate 12 and in washer 10 so that Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented ct. 19, 1915.
when the screws 15 and 16 are operated plate 12 will not move. By reason of the squared portion 5 plate 12 when moved will move or partially move or rotate shaft et, which movement or motion is communicated to door 2 and thereby the same is alined properly. The washer 10 with the lugs 11, present means for rotatably securing the shaft 4 to the base 7, while the screws l5 and 16 and lugs 13 and 141 present means for adjusting or alining the door and holding the door in its proper alined position.
1n applying the alining plate embodying the invention the base 7 is secured in position on the floor in approximately the correct position for correcting the position of the door. If the alining plate is secured to the door before it is secured to the floor the proper alining of the plate 7 will be sulficient to allow the workman to place the securing screws in place so as to rigidly secure the plate 7 to the floor. After this has been done the set screws 15 and 16 are operated until the door 2 is alined to the exact position desired. This alining may be done at any time after the post 7 has been placed in position and may be varied from time to time easily if necessary or desirable. The provision of the set screws as described positively lock the adjusting plate 12 and consequently door 2 against accidental movement or derangement.
Vhat I claim is 1. In an alining plate of the character described, the combination with a hinge having as stationary shaft, of a base, an adjustable plate arranged on said base and formed with an aperture for receiving the end of said shaft whereby said shaft and said adjustable plate will move together, means for preventing the removal of said adjustable plate from said base, a pair of posts arranged on said base, and an adjusting set screw arranged in each of said posts, said set screws engaging said adjustable plate for adjusting the position thereof.
2. In an alining plate of the character described, a base plate formed with an aperture therein, a washer arranged in said aperture and connected with a floor hinge, said washer having overhanging members so as to prevent the shaft of said hinge from leaving the plate while allowing a rotary movement of the shaft, an adjustable plate arranged on said base and connected with said shaft so as to rotate therewith, said ad- In testimony whereof I have signed my Justable plate being formed Wlth a pau` of name to this specification 1n the presence of stops, and set screws arranged on said base, two subscribing witnesses.
