Description

ALFRED BARTON, OF MARLBORO, MASSACHUSETTS Specification of Letters fatent. i Patent'd SQP). 28, 19h63 K i Application filed July 10, 1,915. Serial No. 39,208. I
T all whom/t 'may concern.'
Be it known that l, ALFRED BARTON, a citizen of the Eyed States, residing at Marlboro, MassL c useftts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoe Toe Heaters, ofwhich the following is a' specification.
l the housing. The shape oi."` th, echest may,
so as to leave a space 5 below the top 3. A
and partly in elevation.
,vatiorn The general purpose of the invention is to heat box toes to soften the box for different operations during manufacture. y
The particular purpose of the invention is to provide a heater which utilizes steam vand supplies heat and moisture' suitably regulated, to properly heat and soften the toes in an expeditious way and without burning.
Other objects and advantages of the in vention' will be sufficiently understood by persons skilled'in the art from the following detailed description of theV accompanying drawing which shows one exemplifying embodiment of the invention. This embodiment is the best that I have up to the present time devised', but it is to be understood that the invention can' be embodied in other forms, and I do not limit myself to details except as claimed hereafter.
Figure 1 is an end view, partly in section View, partly in section and partly in ele- Reference character 1 designates fa housing which, lfor reasons of steam and heat economy,1s usually made with a sloping back wall'2, and a sloping top 3. This provides within the housing; sufficient space for the steamjhest and for the shoe toes without'any waste Space which would require unnecessary eiqnendiaire` oflneat.'v
Within the housingis a'steam chest 4, which conforms somewhat to the shape of of course, vary considerably." lt is arranged 1 convenientvconstruction of the chest includes a .removable bottom plate 6. A discharge pipe 7 is connected tothe chest at one end near the top, and this pipe is provided with a valve 8. The supply pipe 9 for steam is i connected to the chest at the opposite end and near the bottom. Branch 10 Afrom this pipo extends beneath the steam chest, usu- Fig. Q is a side ally running along/the whole length thereof, and 1s provided at the top with a plurality of steam'vents- 11of suitable size and 'ar-- rangement. The valve 12 controls thesup* ply of steam to the chest, and another valve -13 controls the supply of steam to pipe 10.
At the front of the housing is a suitably supported shelll 14, and the otherwise open front of the space 5 is suitably divided into shoe-toe-receiving compartments by vertical l slats 15.
ln operation, the supply valve 12 is usu-v ally wide open; the'discharge valve Sis 10,and suitably moistened heat is thus applied to the shoe toes, which are placedl so that they project, say, about one inch and a half into the space 5. Itis found in opera# tion that this appliance heats shoe -toeskfol the class described quickly and satisfactorily without burning or vother yundesirable result. j
l claim:
1. A heater for the purpose mentioned, comprising a housing havingtan open bottom, rear and top walls and upper front openings lor shoe toes with a support adjacent thereto, a steam chest' within the housing, a steam supply pipe leading to the f I chest, a :valve therein, a discharge pipe leady ing from the chest, an apertured steam spray 'f pipe leading from the supply pipe located beneath the chest, and -a valvefon'tzontrollingv the supply ot" steam to the spray`V 2. A heater for the purpose mentioned',- comprismg a housing having an openrbot tom, inclined rear and top Willis andupper front openings for shoe toes 'with a'support adjacent thereto, a steam chest within the housing, a steam supply'pipe leading to the chest, a valve therein, a discharge pipe leading Erom'the chest, a steam spray pipe beneath the chest provided with steam aper-V4 tures, and a. valve controlling the supply of steam te said spray pipe from the main steam pipe.
5%. A heater Comprising a housing having an open bottorn, inclined rear and top walls und upper from; openings fer shoe toes with a. support Climent thereto, a steam elies. wizhni the for the vpurpose mentioned,y
housing, a steam supply pipe lea-ding to the chest, a valve therein, a discharge pipe leading from the chest, a valve therein, a steam spray pipe beneath the chest provided with apertures, ande valve controlling the supply of s team t0 said Spray pipe from the main steam pipe.
