To all whom it may concern 'Beit'known that l, GUY WINKLE, a citizen of the -United States, residing` at Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton 'and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements'in Chiclen-l/Vatering Fountains, of which the following is a specification.
" Myf invention vrelates to' water fountains adapted for use in watering fowls, and more especially to that class of saidfountains einployed in Watering chickens.
The, object of my invention is to afford a chicken Watering fountain, of convement size, portable, automatic vin 'the supply of Water, non-freezing, and at the saine time free' of any liability'ef explosion and the setting and'spread of fire as is the case with the fountainsnow-in common use which are invariably heated inthe winter time with kerosene-lamps.
' I accomplish the aforesaid object by means of the mechanismy hereinafter described and illustrated l,by meansof the vaccompanying drawing in which like reference 'characters represent like parts in all Figure 1 is a' side elevation of my invention. The central portion of the lower edge of said hammered-inlip is soldered to the' out-side face of said inside fountain, and the lateral portions of said lower edge are soldered to the edges 1G and 17 of the cup 18, which cup is positioned in the open space between4 said fountains, the langggedl upper edge 19 of said cup alining with the slitting line 14 and adapted to engage the upper edge of thelower lip of said opening 13, to which edge it isse'curely soldered. The flanged edge 2G of said cup 18 is soldered to the outside face of said inerforations being adapted to admit air that which-timesaid flowv of water will: cease.

By means of thev bail said watering fountain can be lullig on the arm and carried from place to place in the chicken inclosure and back and forth from the inclosure to the housej- Said inside fountain is positioned within said outside shell for the purpose of producing an open space between the two adapted to receive an insulating filler. Said inside. fountain and said outside shell being length, and the tub-shaped support being hollow, there is an open space entirely around the inside fountain, for the floor closes the lowerv open end of said tub-shaped support. The non-freezing quality ofsaid fountain is in this way brought about. In the winter timethe fountain is carried into theI house. and fllled with warnrwaten It is then carried back to the chicken house. rllhere it will' remain all day without freezing. thus dispensing with the kerosene lamps. It is in this way lthat it becomes a non-explosive or safety fountain. In filling the fountain,lit is turned top end down and bottom end up. By the use of a wrench the bolt S can be unscrewed and the inside fountain filled. The bolt S is then screwed into the bushing, and the fountain is ready to be translmrted to thel chicken house. The

1.. In a chicken Watering fountain and in combination; an inverted inside fountain,
having a centrally positioned opening through one of its ends, a perforation"l through the'. side thereof near said perfo 'ated end, and another perforation through the side thereof a little above said first mentioned perforation when said-fountain is in an inverted position; an internally-threaded, flange-headedbushing fitted into said open- `ing; and a threaded bolt adapted to screw 'into said bushing; the flange of said bushing being adapted to engage the margin of said opening into which it is fitted, to Whichopening said flange is securely soldered; said bolt being adapted to prevent Water fron: escaping ,from said fountain through said bushing; the lower-most of said perforations through thel side of said fountain being adapted to afford an outlet for the Water Within said fountain; and said uppermost of said perforations through theside of said fountain being adapted to admit air into said fountain-.and thereby cause the Water within said fountain to fioW out of said fountain through said lowermostperforation'through the side thereof.
