ALBERT HENKELS, OF LANGERFELD, NEAR BARlvilEN, GERMANY.
BRAIDING-CARRIEB.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 23,
Application filed. August 6, 1913. Serial No. 783,355.
To aZZ inhomit may concern Fe it known that l, rrnennr HnNKnL-s, of Langerfeld, Barmerstrasse, near the city of Bar-men, Rhenish Prussia, Germany, have invented a new and useful Improved Braiding-Carrier, of which the following is a specification.
dy invention relates to a process for manufacturing laces on braiding machines and especially to the production of torchon, Cluny and similar laces in which the so called Maltese cross or spot is formed by threads which are differently weighted, the pattern of such spots depending therefore solely on a certain and distinct tension of the threads. Hitherto the tension of each thread is maintained during the make of the complete fabric and the formation of patterns is therefore a comparatively limited one.
My invention has for its object a new and original method consisting in that the tension of any desired number of threads and at any desired portions of the fabric may be changed or altered for a longer or shorter time so that not only the usual pattern spots may be obtained much more eflectually but also a larger variety in the said pattern may be carried out.
My new invention is more fully set out in the following specification in connection with the accompanying drawing which I have filed for the sake of a better under standing of my invention.
.ln the said drawings Figure 1 shows a portion of a braiding or lacing machine on which the torchon laces are manufactured. Fig. 2 shows in a diagrammatic manner a portion of a torchon lace and Figs. 3 and 4 show the carrier by means of which my new process is carired into eflect.
As will be seen from Fig. 2 which repre sents a torchon, Cluny or similar lace there is formed in said lace aso called Maltese cross or spot A which is obtained by weighting the threads a heavily, and the threads 0 slightly. This pattern however is limited by the tension of the springs being maintained throughout the manufacturing operation and for a pattern effect always the same threads are employed. 1 therefore change the said tension and carry this out preferably when the carrier is removed from its path B Fig. 1 and arrested on the recesses or places C. The carrier is provided with the usual tension spring a for tensioning the thread 00 one end of the tensioning spring being provided with pins 8. Said pins enter through slots r of the carrier shaft (Z and are connected with a flange t forming part of socket t which is slidably seated on shaft (Z and may be held in different positions by a spring a the ends of which engage protuberances t 5' of the said socket and it will be obvious that when the flange is moved downwardly the tension spring a will be pulled down and the thread a heavily weighted and vice versa. For eifecting this change of tension at for instance the locking places of the carriers I arrange on the top plate Z) of the machine a standard w having fulcrumed at 10 a lever 50 which is in connection by means of a rod u with a lever y and has a forked or otherwise shaped mouth 03 that is in alinement with the recess G and into which enters the flange t of the carrier. If now the lever 3 is rocked by the rods 2 e from the pattern apparatus for instance a jacquard machine arm, x will be turned and the socket t accordingly raised or lowered. As this adjustment of the tension spring may be done at will a great variety of the pattern will result therefrom.
I point out, that I do not restrict myself to the construction of the carrier shown, modifications of the same may be constructed to meet the spirit of my invention and instead of changing the tension on the arresting places of the carriers the said change may take place also during its travel and in stead of adjusting the tension spring the tension weight may be altered with the same effect.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A tensioning device comprising a hollow carrier having slots, a collar surrounding the carrier said collar having flanges adjacent the lower end thereof, means ex tending through the flanges for connecting the collar and carrier, means carried by the collar for supporting a bobbin, elastic means in the carrier for controlling the tension of the thread from the bobbin and means for adjusting the collar with relation to the carrier.
2. A tensioning device comprising a hollow carrier shaft having slots, a bobbin supported on the carrier, elastic means in the carrier for controlling the tension of the sci thread from the bobbin, adjustable means extending through the carrier and engaging one end of the elastic means for connecting one end of the elastic means to the carrier," and means for moving the ad ustable means an adjusted position, elastic tensioning.
means in the hollow carriershaft, means for forming. a connection between the tensioning means and collar, and means engaging the of the hollow carrier shaft.
l, A tensioning device comprising a hollow carrier shaft, a collar carried by the shaft, resilient means embracing the carrler for holding'the collar in ad usted position,
elastic tension means in the hollow carrier;
shaft, means for connecting the tensioning means and the collar, and means engaging the collar for ad usting the tension of the elastic tensioning means.
