It will be noted that in cutting an opening in the wall of a cylindrical surface, the outer edges of this opening will engage the fence Wires and as the fence wires are forced tightly against this edge, it will securely'holdthe wires against any longitu dinal movement, while the fastening members themselves will securely hold the wires against any lateral movement.
From the above description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it-
will be readily apparent that I have .vided a simple and durablefence whichincludes, as stated, a cylindrical body having yieldable tongues at its lower end which are normally spaced relation but as they are driven into the ground, they are forced, into divergent relation as shown in Fig. 1 to form suitable anchoring. means for the post. The wires of the fence can be quickly and readily fastened in position by first placing the wires propost arranged in parallel scribed, is extremely simple in construction' and can be manufactured and placed upon the market at a comparatively low cost.
WVhile I have shown and described the preferred form of my invention, it will be obvious that various changes in the details of construction and in the proportions may be resorted to for'successfully carrying my invention into practice, without sacrificing any of the novel features or departing from the scope'of the invention, as defined by the appended claim.
Having thus described this invention,
what I desire to claim and secure by Letters Patent is As a new article of manufacture, a fence post consisting of a tubular member provided with a relatively long substantially ivide elongated open end slot disposed longitudinally of the post substantially the entire length thereof, the open end of the slot being at the lower end of the post, said post being also provided with a longitudinally disposed open slot diametrically opposed to the first mentioned slot, the open end of said second named slot being also at the lower end of the post, said second named slot being of a length materially less than the length of the first named slot, the portions of the post between the slots diverging and being flattened from their innerends.
