of which the following is a specification,

reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to a water or liquid heater of that class where the heating agent employed may be live or exhaust steam, hot water, gas or hot liquid; the heater being adaptable for the heating of water in the hot water or steam system of'a house, as a feed water heater, or to produce a circulation of liquidas in a mixer or oil tank.

The object of the invention is to provide a heater of this class that shall be cheap, simple, and durable, and comprise a single casting, so designed and proportioned as to withstand the strains caused by expansion and contraction.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this class that shall be especially adaptable to use with a steam house heating plant in the winter time; and in warm weather, when no steam is used, to heat the water by meansof a coil connected thereto, under which has been placed a burner. I

Nhile I am aware that there have been devices patented for this purpose, they are complicated, contain many parts which render them subject to leakage, and are more diflicult to install; while my invention being of one piece cannot leak, and is as simple to install as any pipe fitting.

With these and other objects in view, my invention consists in certain construction and combination of parts as will hereinafter be fully described and claimed in the annexed specification, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this application, and in which like figures of reference refer to corresponding parts in all of the views; but it is fully understood that while I have here described my invention as shown, that I do not confine myself to the exact design, as slight changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of the several parts without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the drawings: Figure 1, is a topplan view of a modified form of the heater, showing the water coil in place. Fig. 2, is'a ver tical sectional view of the water heater and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the same.

Referring to the drawings; the device comprises a casting 1, preferably cylindrical in shape, and adapted to be attached to a steam stand pipe located adjacent the walls of a room. Partitions 9, and 10, divide the cylinder into three compartments, a steam chamber 3, a water chamber 4, and a coil chamber 21. The steam chamber 3, is provided at its upper and lower surfaces with hubs 11, and 12, which are internally threaded, and to which are attached the steam or heating pipes 8 and 7 respectively. The water chamber 4, adjacent the steam cham ber 3, is provided at its sides, and adjacent its top and base, with hubs 13, and 14, into one of which is secured the flow pipe 15, while to the other is secured the outlet pipe 16. Bosses 17, and 18, are secured in the partition 10, which divides the chamber 4,

from the remainder of the casing. A water coil 19, having its ends secured in the bosses 17, and 18, is positioned in the-chamber 21, and a gas burner 20, havingsuitable connections is placed beneath the coil 19. In cold weather, when steam is used throughout the building for heating purposes, the steam from the stand pipe will flow into the steam chamber 3, and heating the partition 9, will heat the water contained within the water chamber 4. In warm weather, when steam is not used, the gas burner beneath the coil 19, is heated, and the water contained within the water chamber circulating through the coil is kept at the required temperature. The device can be applied to so many uses, and the operation and installation are so simple,-that further explanation is deemed unnecessary.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is r 1. An article of the character described comprising a cylindrical casing, walls with in said casing forming therewith a water heating chamber, and passageways to either side thereof; one of said passageways adapted to receive a heating medium, and means in the other of said passageways adapted to i provide an auxiliary heating medium, substantially as described.

2. An article of the character described comprising a cylindrical casing, walls with in said casing forming therewith a water heating chamber, and passageways to either side thereof; one of said passageways adapted to receive a heating medium; and a coil located in the other passageway, communieating with the water heating chamber, and

providing an auxiliary heating medium, substantially'as described' 3. A water heater of the character described comprising a cylindrical casing, walls disposed transversely of said casing and forming therewith a water heating chamber, and passageways to either side thereof; one of said passageways adapted to receive a heating medium and a coil located in the other passageway and communicating with the water heating chamber, said coil adapted to be heated by a burner as an auxiliary heating means, substantially as described.
