REGISTER-smul).
m Spcciation of Letters Patent.
Appn'eation mea February 1s, 191s. serial No. 8,001.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, HARRY W. NEAL, 'a citizen of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Register-Shield, of vwhich the following is a specification.
My invention relates to'register shields.
It is the object of my invention to make a register shield with a water pocket located in the most convenient and advantageous position, and to do so at a of eX- pense; and to provide in this register` shield 4an efficient dirt-catching pocket.
In carrying out my invention, I provide a register shield which has two end walls, preferably of cast metal, in which are formed integral water pockets opening both inside and outside of the register shield, or on both sides of the end walls; and mount on these end walls a curved reflector plate,
which is conveniently of sheet metal, which at its forward and upper end is bent downward and rearward to'.form a pocket for carried by the hotl air fromV catching the dirt the register.
The accompanying drawing illustratesmy invention.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a register shield embodying my invention, showing it in place over a register; Fig. 2 is an elevation of one of the end members of.this register shield; and Fig. 3 is a Lsectional perspective view of such end member, the section being taken substantially on the line 3*3 of Fig. 2.
The register shield comprises twc duplicate end members 10, which are formed of cast metal with a peripheral' flange 11 for purposes of strength and beauty, these end members being provided with a flat base 12 for resting on the floor and with an up` curved rear edge 13, desired shape of the.
wardly and forwardly which conforms to the deliector plate 14 which extends from one `end member 10 to the other and forms the p rearwardly, and then upwardly to form a pocket l5 which will catch and retain a large part of the dust particles which are carried by the ascendlng currents of air patented sept. a, rais.
from the register 16. The shape of this pocket conforms to the shape of the upper and forward ends of the end members, as shown in Fig. 2.
Each end member 10 has formed in it a water pocket 20, which is formed by making` the lower part of such body portion of two laterally displaced walls 21 which join at the bottom and the front and rear with such body but are separated at their upper edges from the body of the rend member by openings 22 on both sides. These openings 22 permit `the pockets 20 to be filled at the outer sides of the end members, and allow evaporation both on the outer sides and the inner sides of such end` members, the evaporation on the inner sides serving to humidify the rising current of air from the register 16.
I claim as my invention:
1. A register shield, comprising a pair of end members of cast metal having water pockets formed in their bodies, which water pockets open on both the inner and outer sides ofsuch end members, and a deflector plate which is curvedto produce the desired deflection and connects the two end members, said deflector plate being of sheet meta A register shield, comprising a pair of end members having water pockets formed in them, which water pockets open on both the inner and outer sides of such end members, and a deflector plate which is curved to produce the desired deflection and connects the two end members.
3. -A register shield, comprising a pair of end members having water pockets formed in them, which water pockets open on both the inner and outer sides of such end members, and a deflector plate which is curved to produce the desired deflection and connects the two end members, said deflector plate at its forward end being rearwardly, and upwardly, so as to form an inwardly opening pocket`so as to catch dirt particles carried bythe stream of air deflected thereby.
In witnesswhereof, I have hereunto set my hand at Indianapolis, Indiana, this eighth day of February, A. D. one thousand nine hundred and fifteen.
