for use by conductors and others, and adapted for holding coins of various'val'ues or denominations, the device being so operable that the conductor may readily remove the desired coins when making change.
It is the obj ect of the invention to provide a coin holder of unique construction and operation, whereby there is no liability whatever of the coins being lost, or dropped while being removed, although the device is operable to enable the coins to bereadily removed by the hand so that the coins will be received by the palm of the handwhich is employed for operating the device. It is also within the scope of the invention to provide a device having the features above noted, and which is also simple and inexpensive in construction, as well as being convenient, practical and elllcient in use, and the device also having means whereby the coins may be readily deposited therein.
l/Vith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a front View of the improved device. Fig. 2 is a central vertical section taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
In carrying out the invention there is provided a flat horizontal rectangular frame 1, preferably constructed of sheet metal, and having upstanding tubes 2 of various diameters, whereby the tubes are capable of holding various sizes of coins, according to the use to which the device is put. The frame 1 has a plurality of parallel slots or channels 3 therein, one for each tube 2, and the channels 3 extend below the tubes 2 from the front to the rear edge of'the frame. The front edge portion of the frame 1 is equipped with a depending hopper 1 with which the forward ends of the channels 8 communicate, and the front wall of the hopper at is spaced su'fliciently in front of the tubes 2 whereby the forward ends of the coin ejectors 5 can be properly moved into the hopper from under thet'u'bes 2.
' The ejectors .5 are preferably constructed of sheet metal of the same thicknesses as the coins 'which'th'ey discharge, and the eject'ors 5 are slidable snug-1y within the channels 3 under the respective tubes '2. The forward end portions of the ejectors 5 have openings '6 for receiving the coins, and said openings 6 are of the same diameters as the coins which they receive from the respective'tubes 2. Stern's 7 are secured to and dep nd from the ejectors 5 adjacent the rear ends of the ejectors, and the bottomof the frame 1 is provided with elongated slots '8 below the passages 3 in rear of the tubes 2 in which the stems 7 work, the stems 7 having lower finger pieces 9 which depend below the frame 1.
The stems 7 are connected by means of coiled wire retractile springs 10 with a forwardly curved shield or guard 11 secured to the rear edge portion of the frame 1 and depending from the rear edge of the frame so as to protect the finger pieces or actuating elements 9.
The tubes 2 are provided with concaved upper ends 12 which are provided with slots 13 for the passage of the coins. The concaved ends 12 of the tubes 2 facilitate the insertion of the coins in the tubes, since the ends 12 will readily receive and hold the coins, in order that the coins may be easily dropped through the slots 13.
In use, the ejectors 5 are normally drawn rearwardly by the springs 10, so that the openings 6 of the ejectors lie below and in registration with the lower ends of the tubes 2. The lower coins of the stacks of coins within the tubes will be received by the openings 6 of the ejectors, and since the ejectors extend completely around the coins, with the coins resting upon the bottom of the frame 1, the coins cannot accidentally drop out. This prevents the loss of the coins. When the conductor or operator desires to withdraw one or more coins, in makmoved forward, the corresponding ejector 5 will be moved forward, and will carry the respective coin from under the respective tube 2 and into the hopper 4E, and when the ejector 5 enters the hopper 4 sufficiently, the coin carried thereby will drop down the hopper into the palm of the hand. By properly operating the ejectors the desired coins may be readily withdrawn, and will be directed by the hopper 4 into the palm of the hand. This prevents the coins from being dropped when they are discharged, and the coins being received by the palm of the hand may be readily observed and handed to the passenger. The shield 11 prevents the finger pieces 9 from being accidentally moved, and as soon as the finger pieces are released, the ejectors are drawn back to initial or normal positions under the influence of the springs 10.
From the foregoing taken in connection with the drawing, the advantages and capabilities of the invention are thought to be obvious without further comment being necessary.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is A coin holder comprising a flat horizontal.
frame having upstanding coin holding tubes 3 and spaced passages extending below said tubes, the forward edge portion of the frame having a depending hopper communicating with said passages, coin ejectors slidable in said passages and having openings adjacent their forward ends normally disposed-below the tubes, the forward ends of the ejectors being movable into the hopper, the bottom of the frame having slots below said passages in rear of said tubes, finger pieces at- 4 tached to the ejectors and working in said slots, the finger pieces depending below the frame in rear of the hopper and being arranged to be engaged by the fingers of the hand which is disposed palm upward below the hopper, adepending forwardly curved shield carriedby the rear edge portion of the frame, and retractile springs connecting said shield and finger pieces.
