This invention relates to liush Atanks for use in waterclosets and like places, and particularly 'to the valve construction for discharging the water from said tanks, and the object of the invention is to4 provide an 1mpro'ved valve construction whereby the valve and valve seat mayv be quickly and .easily cleaned or repaired whenever necessary without loosening the connection of the discharge pipe in the bottoni ofthe tank, or
producing leakage at this point; and with this and other objects Yin view the invention consists of the construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
VEhe invention is fully disclosed in the ollowing specilication, of which'the accompanying drawing 'forms a part, 1n whichlt'he separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure l is a side view of a flush tank provided with my improvement, part of the tank being broken away and part of the construction being shown in section; Fig. 2 a sectional view of the water discharge mechanism detached from the tank; Fig. 8 a view similar to Fig. l but showingthe parts in a different position; and, F ig; 4 a plan view of a spider cap which TI employ and which is shown in full lines in Fig. l and in section in Figs. 2 and 3.
In the drawing forming part of this speciication2 I have shown at (L an ordinary flush tank having a bottom a2 in which is secured a discharge pipe b.
The discharge 'tube b is threaded at its lower end as shown at 52 and is passed downwardly through the bottom of the tank and is provided with a washer "3 below which is placed a nut b4 and a pipe o is connected with the tube?) by means ofla coul MES pagina@ orten;
BROOKLYN, NEW Yoan; MnGnALnNAi/r. :sarees nxncumnlxpling nut c2, and the pipe ,c leads to the basin, not shown, in the usual manner.
The upper or inner end of 'the tube b is provided with a cage Z formedintegrally..`
with said tube,' and comprising a bottomf circular member d2 and a top annular memberor band da connected with the bottom circular member d2 by vertical rods or barst?. I also provide a spider cap e which is shown m full lines in Fig. l1', 1n section in igs.' 2' and 3, and a plan- View of which isY given in Fig. 4; and this spider cap' involves a rim or band member e2 adapted to receive the annular top memberV d of the cage fl, and the spider cap maybe V iletachably secured to said part als by a set screw or screws Y, or by means of a screw-threa'el`or in any other way.Y l i y yThe spider cap e is provided with a central circular opening es. through which is loosely passed and through which is mov N able, a valve tube g provided atv its lower end with a valve g2adapted to be seated on and to closely titan annular valve seat b, in the top of the tube b. l A
The Ivalve tube g `is provided-at they top .thereof with a spider cap thaving a central vertical screw-threaded shank tzpprovided with an aperture It?, and I also employfin the construction shown, a hollow cone device t' which is passed down over thevalve threadedv shank h2 of the spider 'cap z.
passes, and said cone device is secured on not shown for the reason that they form no part of this invention and any suitable means may be provided -for this purpose..v
In the operation of this construction the Hush Awater nbrmally,or under normal conditions, passes through the cage CZ and tube g and vthrough the top of which the 'l through the tube 7i when the valve g is i raised, but if at any time the water 7c should rise too high in the tank a, it will flow through the siphon members t' and g `and discharge through the tube Z) and pipe,l
w, as will be readily*understood, and itiis in order to accomplish this result that the valve support q ismade in the form of a tube, and a slunplemental siphon attachment applied thereto.
Heretofore .in devices of this class the cage (l has been detachably connected with the tube Z1 by means ot' a screw-thread and the spider cap c or a similar device has been fornied integrally with the cage d, and in order to repair the valve g2, or the valve seat b", it was necessary to detach lsaid cage from the tube L and this frequently resulted in looserging the tube l) in the bottom of the tank a and causing' a leak at this point, Or around said tube. lith my improvement, however, all that is necessary is to detach the spider cap e, and said cap and the valve tube f/ and the part connected therewith may be removed or detached, and said valve seat and valve may be cleaned or repaired, after which the said valve tube with the spider cap c may be again connected with the cage (l.
The circular bottom member Z2 of the cage (l which is formed integrally with the tube L projects beyond said tube and a packing washer m is placed between the same and this together withthe washer b and nut 7)? insures a watertight connection between said tube and the bottom a2 of the tank. v
The great advantage of this construction will be apparent to all those familiar with this class of devices, and my invention is not limited to the use of the cone device z'.
and any other suitable means iii-ay beused in connection with the valve tube g for 'forming a sipho'n, and ychanges in' and modiiif-ations ot the construction hereindescribed may be made, within the scope ofthe appended claims, without departing from the spirit of my invention, or sacrificing its advantages.
Having i'ully described my invention,V
tanks, a tube adapted to be secured in the bottom of the tankand provided in the top thereof with a valve seat, said top of the tube being also provided with a valve cage having a detachable cap member, a lvertically mo able valve Support passing looselyv through said cap member and provided at its lower end with a valve which operates in connnection with said valve seat.
3. In a` discharge mechanism for flush tanks, a tube adapted to be secured in the bottom of the tank and in a vertical position and provided in the top thereof with a valve seat inelosed by a cage having a detachable cap member, and a valve support movable vertically through said cap inemb'er and provided at its lower end with a valve which operates in' connection with said valve seat. l
In testimony that I claim the foregoing iis my invention I have signed my name in presence ot' the subscribing witnesses this 19th day ot' January, 1915.
