vented new and useful Improvements in Massage-Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in massage machines and has particular application to an electrically operated vibrator.
In carrying out the present invention, it is our purpose to provide a machine of the class described whereby the desired part of the body may be massaged with ease and convenience and which will be under the complete control of the operator or user thereof.
With the above and other objects in view, the inventionconsists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts here inafter set forth in and falling within the scope of the claim.
In the accompanying drawing; Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view through a massage machine constructed in accordance with the present invention. Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view therethrough.
The device comprises a substantially oval- I shaped casing 14 connected with one end of a handle and having the longitudinal axis thereof coextensive with the axis of the handle. Detachably connected with the other end of the casing 14: .is a cover 14;. Arranged within the casing 14 is an electro magnet 15 having one end thereof connected to the handle end of the casing and having the longitudinal center? line thereof coex-' tensive with that of'the handle. The pole of the magnet 15 terminates in advance of the outer. end of the casing and disposed within the influence of such pole is an armature 16 fixed to one-end of an arm 17 pivoted between its ends within a slot 18 formed in the cover 14' and arranged at right angles to the plane of the magnet and having the outer end thereof equipped with 'a rubber leaf spring 20 has one end fastened to theiinner wall of the cover 14' and the opposite extremity bearing against the arm 17 and acts to maintain the armature spaced apart from the pole of the magnet.
Although we have found it convenient to employ the leaf spring 20 and arrange the same as shown in Fig. 4, it will be understood that any other form of tension device or other means may be employed to maintain the armature out of engagement with the pole of the magnet and restore the same to normal position succeeding the deenergization of the Winding of the magnet.
In the use of the device shown in Fig. 4, the cup or applicator is placed upon the part of the body to be treated and an alternating current passed through the coil of the magnet 15. As long as the current energizing the coil remains positive or negative the armature 16 is held in engagement with the pole of the magnet 15, while when the current changes from one value to another, the armature is disengaged from the poleof the magnet under the action of the spring 20, thereby causing the applicator or cup 19 to vibrate rapidly.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the construction, mode of operation and manner of employing our invention will be readily apparent. It will be seen that we have provided a massage machine whereby the part to be treated may be subjected to vibration and which is convenient to handle.
