ADJUSTABLE 'WINIUOVI $CREEN.
Specification of Letters Patcnt.
Patented Aug. a, rare.
Application July 55. 1914. serial No. 853,110.
To all whom it may concern:
lie it known. that I, ASA A. HoYr, a citizen of the United States, residing at "Watsonville, in the county of Santa Cruz and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjust" able Window-Screens; and I do declare the following to be a clear, full, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,
' and to the characters of reference marked.
thereon, which form a part of this application.
This invention relates to improvements -1 adjustable window screens and is readily adapted to fit into any opening left after raising the window in the sash. Many windows, especially in large buildings, are not provided with screens and to this end I have made my adjustable screen which will be seen to cover thenecessary requirements. 4
A further object of the invention is to produce a simple and inexpensive device and yet one which will be exceedingly effective for the purposes for which it is designed.
These objects, I accomplish by means of such structure and relative arrangement of the parts'as will fully appear by a perusal of the following specification and claim.
,On the drawings, similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views. i v
Figure l is a top view of the screen frame.
Fig. 2 is a side view of the frame, :Fig. 3
is a view showing the frame in position. I
Referring now more particularly to the characters of reference on'the drawings, the
numeral 1 designates the frame for holding the screen 2. One end of the frame 2 is extended, as at 3, and secured centrally along the edge of such extension 3 is a projecting metal plate 4.
The numeral 6 designates an end bar projecting normally parallel with the extension 3 and provided with a slot '5 along its length into which the plate l normally projects. This member 6 is connected to the. member 1 by means of linlrs I turnable on pins 8 on the members 1. and 6. l 7l1en the screen is to be inserted in the window,
the member 6 is moved by means of links 7 to that position in which it will be closest to the member-1 which will. permit the entire device to be moved past the stops on the window sash. Then by moving the member 1 downwardly against the bottom of the sash, this will cause the member 6 to be moved to its position farthest away from the member 1 which will extend. the length of the entire device so it will engage the stops and be held in position in the window sash. The window may then be low-- ered to the top of the device as shown in Fig. 3. The metal piece 4: projecting into the groove 5 will keep dust and insects from entering through the space between the members 1 and 6. 1 Practically all windows are made of a. standard width, namely, twenty-six inches, twenty-eight inches, thirty inches, etc, and hence my improved screen would be made in various sizes to the different widths of windows. entire length of my device, when extended, is made a small fraction of an inch shorter than the actual width of the window inside the stops to allow for swelling of the window sash from moisture or the like.
From the foregoing description it will readily be seen that l have produced such a'device as substantially fulfils the objects of the invention as set forth herein.
While this specification sets forth in detail the present and preferred construction ofthe device, still in practice, such deviations from such detail may be resorted to as do not form a departure from the spirit of the invention as defined by the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and useful and desire to secure by Letters Patent lu A device of the character described comprising a frame, a screen carried by said frame, a projecting olate disposed centrally along one end. of said frame, a bar provided with a centrally extending slot. along one edge receiving said plate, and links connecting said bar and said frame, as described.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
