A. WALKER.
v GATE HANGER. APPLICATION FILED DEC. 12, 1914.
Patented July 27 L915.
COLUMBIA PLANonRAPH COHWASHII JGTO D. c.
ALONZO WALKER, OF CLEO, OKLAHOMA.
GATE-HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 27, 1915..
Application filed December 12, 1914. Serial No. 876,880.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Anoivzo WALKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleo,
. in the county of Major and State of Oklahoma, have invented new and useful Improvements in Gate-Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in gates and has particular reference to farm gates.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a sectional gate wherein both the said sections are simultaneously swung to opened or closed position thereby providing a double entrance to permit teams to pass therethrough in opposite directions.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a novel construction of means whereby both the gate sections can be simultaneously locked or unlocked.
Among other features the invention embodies simplicity of construction, durability and efficiency in operation.
In the drawing forming a part of this ap plication like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views and in which Figure 1 is a front elevation. Fig. 2 is a top plan view. Fig. 3 is a detail view. Fig. 1 is a sectional view through the gate looking in the direction of one of the posts.
Referring more particularly to the drawing 5 designates the usual fence posts suitably spaced to provide a gate opening of suliioient size to permit of the use of a gate constructed in accordance with my invention. A center post 6 forming a pivot for the gate has fixed thereto in any suitable manner upper and lower circular tracks 7 upon which the gate 8 is mounted for rotation.
The gate comprises the sections 9 and 10 which areconnected by the yokes 11 the lat ter comprising spaced members 12 arranged on the opposite sides of the sections and secured thereto by the bolts 13. Each of the members 12 has an intermediate semi-circular portion 14 defining a ring when operatively associated with the gate, which surrounds the center post 6 as shown. Depending from the semicircular portions 14 are brackets 15 arranged at diametrically opposlte points about the ring and in which are journaled the rollers 16 that ride on the tracks 7. By reason of this construction and arrangement it is manifest that both the sections of the gate can be swung to either opened or closed position simultaneously.
WVith a view of looking or unlocking both of the sections simultaneously I employ a locking rod 17 which extends across the entire width of the gate and terminates at both ends in lateral offset L-shaped portions 18, the short arms19 of which are weighted by the spherical extensions 20 adapted to be received by the keeper members 21 secured to the posts 5 in any suitable manner. The keepers 21 are provided with oppositely curved surfaces 22 upon which the spherical extensions 20 are adapted to ride and be guided into the slots 23 when the gate is swung to closed position, thereby holdingthe same against movement. When it is desired to open the gate it is only necessary to lift either of the long arms 24: of the L-shaped portions of the rod 17 whereupon both of the spherical extensions are simultaneously released from the keepers 21.
From the foregoing description it is believed that the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent without requiring a more extended explanation and therefore the same has been omitted.
What I claim is In combination, a vertical pivot, a circular track surrounding said pivot, gate sections arranged at the opposite sides of the pivot, semi-cylindrical members terminally secured to the adjacent ends of the sections at both sides thereof, said members when associated defining a ring encircling said pivot, and a plurality of rollers supported by said ring and movable over said track.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ALONZO WALKER.
