arr-tn straits THOMAS VICARS, JOHN VICARS, AND EDWARD LYNTON VICABS, OF EAELESTOWN,
' ENGLAND.
OVEN.
Application filed February 26, 1913.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, THOMAS VIoARs, JOHN VICARS, and EDWARD LYNTON VIOARS, subjects of the King of Great Britain, residing at Earlestown, in the county of Lancaster, England, have invented new and useful Improvements in Ovens, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to those ovens which have longitudinal fines above and below the baking chamber arranged in zigzag manner and our object is to provide means whereby the fines may readily be changed from the zigzag arrangement to a number of separate straight fines or vice-versa thus making the oven more suitable for either quick or slow baking of biscuits, &c.
The invention is hereafter described with reference to the accompanying drawings whereon Figure 1 is a longitudinal section at the line A A on Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section at the line B B on Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section at the line C C on Fig. 1. In all these the middle portion of the oven is broken away. Figs. 4 and 5 are transverse sections at the lines D D and E E respectively on Fig. 1, all of an oven constructed according to our invention.
a are the outer walls of the oven.
7 a 7 fa f are a number of straight fines arranged longitudinally above and below the oven h in sets, the two fines of each of the top sets communicating with one another at both ends and the two fines of each of the bottom sets communicating with one another at one end. Some of the fines b, 0, cl, 6, f, and g are provided with inlet dampers 11 so that the gases from the fireplace y can be shut ofi' therefrom, such gases then entering the other fines b, 0, cl, 6, 7, g, of the sets and passing in a zigzag course, as shown by the arrows, to the outlets is from the fines b, 0', cl, 6', f, g, which are also provided with dampers Z. Each bottom set of fines e, f, g, is also open at one end to a common outlet m provided with a damper n which is closed when the fines are being worked in zigzag. Each top set of fines b, b, c, c, d, d, is open at both ends to common outlets 0 provided Specification of Letters Patent.

with dampers p which are closed when the fines are worked in zigzag. To operate as straight fines the end common outlet dampers n, p, are opened the other outlets is closed and all the inlet dampers i opened. The fire gases then enter direct or from uptakes into each straight fine and pass direct to the end outlets m, 0. Flues and dampers are also provided, in any usual way, whereby the gases can be passed directly from the fireplace to the chimney when desired without passing through the oven fines.
We claim 1. The combination in an oven of longitudinal straight fines arranged in sets, the fines in a set communicating with each other at certain ends, and one fine of each set having a damper controlled inlet and outlet, and a damper controlled outlet common to all of the fines of a set.
2. A bake oven including a wall structure having a source of heat and an oven space, longitudinal fines arranged in sets above and below the oven, certain of the fines of each set communicating with each other at corresponding ends thereof, means to establish communication directly with all of the fines of the sets, outlets designed to be placed in communication with the fines directly or adapted to be cut olf therefrom and additional outlets designed to be placed in communication with certain of said fines not placed in direct communication with the source of heat.
3. An oven having a baking chamber and a source of heat supply, longitudinal fines above and below said chamber, said fines being arranged in sets, the fines of each upper set communicating with each other at their ends and the fines of each lower set commnnicating with each other at one end of the oven, inlet dampers for each alternate fine of each lower set, outlets for each of the last mentioned fines adapted to be placed in commnnication with the other fines of the lower sets through the fines provided with the inlet dampers when the latter are closed or in direct communication with the source of heat when said dampers are open, damper controlled outlets communicating with the ends of the fines of the lower sets which are r -tion with said first mentioned outlets and in communication, the alternate flues of the names to this specification in the presence of 10 upper sets being also placed 111 communlcatwo subscribing Witnesses.
THOMAS VIOARS.
means to place all of the fiues of the upper JOHN VICARS sets in direct communication with the source T T i T i, i of heat While the first named outlets are EDVARD Lllk'lOh VIbARb' closed and to establish the direct outlets at WVitnesses: the ends of the flues of the upper sets. W. B. JoHNsoN,
