'Be it ,knownthat I, FRANK MORRILL Lov- .ERING, a citizen'of the United States of America, and a resident of Bangor, in the county of Penobscot and State of .Maine, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spring Bed-Bottoms, whereof the following is a specification. This invention relates tospring bed bot toms of the link and plate type of fabric connected to the frame by horizontal coiled springs. I
The principal object of the inventionis to avoid saggingat the center of the mattress or bed bottom without interference with a proper elasticity thereof.
Figure 1 of the accompanying drawlngs represents a plan of a plate link and spring bed bottom containing an embodiment of this invention, parts thereof being broken out for convenience of illustration. Fig. 2 represents on a larger scale a longitudinal section through portionsof said bed bottom on line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig.3 represents on a still larger scale a transverse "section through the central portion of said bedbottom near one end thereof on line 3 3 of Fig. 1, looking toward the left. Fig. A represents on the same scale as Fig. 3;]a trans verse section through'the centralstrands of said bed bottom at about midway thereof on line H of'Fig. 1, looking toward the left.

The bed bottom herein shown to illustrate the preferred embodiment of this invention comprises two end angle bars 10 and 15 which constitute the frame. These angle bars are of the usual construction, their horizontal flanges being provided respectively with a series of holes 12 and a series of holes 17 for connection of the springs therewith. In this construction the end bar 10 is further provided'with a supplemental central hole 13 and the end bar 15 with a supplemental hole 18.

The main sections 20 and'30 are connected by a variably expansible'middle' section composed of rigid parts or links disposed between and connecting the two main sections. This middle section thus constructed maintains an even surface with the connected sections and permits variable spreading of the latter to provide individual independence thereof. This middle section is composed in the illustrated embodiment of diagonal rigid links pivoted at their opposite ends to said main sections respectively.
