phia and State of Pennsylvania, have inventeda certain new and useful Connector- Puller for Battery-Terminals, of which the following is a specification.
Objects of the present invention are to provide a portable tool for disconnecting the connector straps from'the plate terminals to which they are attached as by lead burning or the like in such manner that the straps and terminals are uninjured and are fit for re-use; to adapt the tool for use in connection with such difierent forms of straps as are commonly employed; and to provide a compact, strong and inexpensive connector puller.
. The invention will be claimed at the end hereof but will first be described in connection with the embodiment of it which I have selected from various embodiments as being what I consider the best embodiment of it now known to me.
In the drawings Figure 1, is a view, principally in central section, of a tool embodying features of the invention. Fig. 2, is a front view of the tool with parts broken away. Fig. 3, is a sectional view taken on the line 3, of Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrow, and Figs. 41 and 5, are perspective views of parts of straps showing forms thereof in connection with which the tool can be used.
In the drawings 1, is a housing having generally the form of the half of a hollow cylinder although the form may of course be varied and changed.
2, is a handle projecting from the rear of the housing: At the bottom of the housing there is a post receiving notched jaw 3. The notch of this jaw is open so that the post a, and strap 6, can be inserted laterally into the housing. The housing is provided at its top with a tapped opening 4, for a purpose to be presently described. Within the housing there are guide ways 5, which are shown to consist of pins extending from and secured to the top and bottom walls.

13, isa punch having its head 14, arranged for movement into and out of the cavity or recess 8. The head of the punch may be provided with a projecting centering point 15. The shank of the punch works freely through the opening 7, and there are means for revolubly connecting the screw or pressure plug with the shank. These means are shown to comprise a ball 16, fixed to.the shank of the punch and arranged in a socket 17 fixed to the screw 12.

19, is a handle movably inserted through collar 6, is held away from the jaw 3, against the compression of the spring 11, by the punch, the head of which rests on the bottom of the cavity 8. To separate the strap and post, the screw or pressure plug 12, is advanced into the housing by means of the handle 19. The result of this is thatthe jaw or collar 6, is brought by the action of the spring 11, to bear upon the top part of the strap and by reason of the concave shape of the cavity 21, which receives the strap, the latter as well as the post a, are centered and the strap is held against the jaw 3, while the post is free in the notch of that jaw. After the strap and post have been thus properly positioned and held the continued turning of the screw 12, causes the head of the punch to be projected from the cavity 8, and to bear upon the top of the post a, and to exert such pressure upon the post that it is detached from the strap or, more accurately, pushed out of the hole in the strap in which hole it has been prepost. The screw is then retracted from the housing so that the punch is drawn back into the cavity 8, and engages the collar or jaw 6, and moves it awayfrom the jaw 3. If the strap should stick to the jaw or collar 6, the stripper l0, which-overlies the strap prevents it from moving with the punch or collar so that the strap is detached and cleared. The operation of the tool in connection with the form of strap end 0, is the same as has been described. The cavity or recess21, cooperates with the other parts in each case to center the strap and post properly in respect to the parts which operate upon them.'.
What I claim is:
1. A connector puller for battery terminals comprising the combination of an opensided receiving jaw and a guide collar movable the one in respect to the other, a spring for actuating one of said parts, a screw plug, and a punch revolubly connected with the screw plug and having sliding connection with said collar whereby it is adapted t to restrain said spring and to be projected through the collar, substantially as described.
2. A connector puller for battery terminals comprising the combination of receiving'jaws adapted to receive between t em a post and connector end, a spring tending'to shift said jaws to center and clamp thepost and connector end, a screw, and connections for restraining said spring to permit of the insertion of the connector end and post and for releasing said sprlngto permit the jaws postand for detaching the post from the clamped connector end, substantially as described. 3. A connector puller for battery terminals comprising the combination of a housing having an open-sided receiving jaw and provided-with guide ways, a guide collar slidable on said ways and provided with a punch shank opening and with a punch head cavity, a spring tending to shift said collar toward said jaw, a screw plug, and a headed punch having its shank arranged through said shank opening and revolubly connected with the screw-plug and having its head occupying said cavity and adapted collar, a screw p and to be projected therefrom, substantially as described.
4. A connector puller for battery terminals comprising the combination of a housing having an open-sidedreceiving jaw and guide ways and a stripper, a guide collar slidable on the guide ways and coiiperating with the stripper, a spring for actuating the lug, and a headed punch revolubly connected with the plug and having its head arranged in engagement with the collar and adapted to be projected therefrom, substantially as described.
5. A connector puller for nals comprising the combination of a housing having an open-sided jaw and provided with lengthwise and crosswise arranged rods constituting'guide ways and a stripper, a guide collar slidable in respect to said rods, a spring for the collar, a screw plug arranged through the wall of the housing, and a headed punch revolubly connected with the screw plug and having its head in engagement with the collar and adapted to be projected therefrom, substantially as described.

A connector puller ,for battery terminals comprising the combinatlon of a pair of jaws of whichone is movable, a spring for actuating the movable jaw, a screw, an a punch adapted to be actuated by the screw and to be projected through said movable jaw and to engage the same, substantially as described.
7. A connector puller for battery terminals comprising the combination of a fixed jaw, a punch and a respect to each other and to the jaw, and devices for operating the collarin advance of the punch in approaching the fixed jaw.
8. A connector puller for battery plates comprising the combination of a fixed jaw, a punch, a guide collar in respect to which the punch is projectable and retractable, a
