Specification of Letters Patent.
Application lefl August 3, 1914. Serial No. 854,839.
' ent drying chambers can be located. one on cach side of a central circulating and heatino chamber.
ii iurther object of the invention is to so construct a drier' having longitudinal heating and circulating chambers that the material beingdried can be examined during the drying operation.
A still 'further object of the invention 1s to reduce the height ol the driers of this type.
This invention is particularly adapted it'or drying plastic materials, such as. drain pipes, bricks, rte., but it 'will be understood that it can be used for drying other materials as well.
ln the accompanying drawings: Figure l is a plan view ot my improved drier; Fig. if) is a side view: and Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view".
Referring: to the dra wingrsl` l is the easing havingr three longitudinal conipartments 2, 2 and Il. 'The eoinpartnients 2. .2 are on each side of the central compartment 3 and in these side compartments are tracks upon which the trucks l are traversed through the drier. Located in the central chamber 3 is a series oi' heating pipesl 5 and above these pipes are the circulatingr fans for causing the hot air to circulate in the manner indicated b v the arrows. The fans are preterabl),Y driven as illustrated in the drawings.
llxtending under the drying chambers 2, 2 are endless chains 7 having projections which engage an aXle of A:ich truck. These chains pass around wheels S so that, on. turning the wheels, the seveal trucks can be moved a predetermined distance. 4
In order to divide the heatingr chainbcrr 2 into independent sections7 I provide metallic curtains 9, which are adapted to rollers and these rollers are geared to a longitudinal operating shaft l() in the present 'instance7 which can be turned either by hand or by power. l preferably provide curtains at each end ofthe drier. Each curtain may be independently rolled either by hand or by power.
When it is desired to shift the trucks, the curtains are raised and after the trucks are shifted the curtains are again lowered, dividing the chamber into independent sec-A tions so that the material can be more thoroughly dried. The. curtains also prevent the moist air of one section from entering another section.
Each section may be provided with vents to allow for the escape ot moist air. and at the side of the drier is a series of openings closed by doors having windows through which the material can be inspected as it is traversed through the drier.
lvvhile l have shown trucks to convey the material through the drier other carriers mayY be susbtituted for the trucks it found desirable in carrying certain materials.
I claim:
l. The combination in a drier, oi" a casing having three longitudinal chambers, the two side chambers beingdrying chambers for the material; means in said chambers for conveying said material; the central 'chamber having a series of heating pipes therein and overhead rotating fans for causing the circulation ot the airthroughthe three chambers; and movable, transverse parti` tions located in the drying chambers for limiting the circulation of air7 yet allowing 'for the free movement of the conveyingr means when the material to he dried is shifted.
2. The combination in a drier, o'l a longitudinal heating chamber and a drying chamber; means inthe heating chamber for heating the air 5. a. conveyer in the drying chainber; a series of transversely arranged curtains spaced a certain distance apart and acting as partitions to divide the drying chamber into compartments; and curtains at each end of the drier forming doors; and means Yfor simultaneously raising or lowering said curtains.
3. The combination. in a drier, of a casing having three longitudinal chambers therein, the central chamber' being the heating chamfs being the .nw
ulmmners; crculatm,
chambers; ,a Series of iansversey arrangei' Curtains, space a given istance riparia a1'- x'zmged'to sepmate'e casng into a series of compar'tmentsg m16, xlamsfor raising and lowering the amt-aims in unisn.
