Be it known that'I, GUs'rav BENIsoH, a citizen of the United States of America, and residentof the borough of Brooklyn, inthe county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful 1mprovements in Pivoted Doors, of which the following is a specification. v f
This invention relates toimprovementsrin pivoted doors for mausoleums constructed of graniteor the like, and other such perma- 'fnent structuresy exposed to Athe elements.
These doors as heretofore constructed were usually set on a bronze saddle and swung inwardly, so that there existed an exposed joint between the door and saddle, which would allow rain to beat'or seep into thc structure, andthereby gradually deteriorate the same, and endanger its permanence. TAS mausoleums to be durable must be constructed entirely ofveverlas'ting materiahsuch eX- vpedients as rubber or yfelt weather strips will not help matters, as they are not everlasting, and furthermore, detract from the dignity and beauty of-suchY a structure. The object of thejpr'esentinventiony is to overcome these objections, by providing la door to' swing outwardly and permanent means abutting said door for preventing entrance of rain into the structure.
A further object is to providean; adjustable pivot for the jd'oor, so as to provide for any inaccuracy in' *the*l drilling of pivot-holes in the granite or other material used before the same is set up, and thereby establish close joints between the door and frame.
With these and other. objectsin view, my invention consists of the novel features, construction and arrangement of, parts, hereinafter more full' ed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevational view of my improved door; Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same; Fig. 3 is a horizontal section thereof; Fig. 4 is a sectional detail showing a form of bronze saddle for the door; Fig. 5 is a modified form of the same; Fig. 6 is an enlarged vertical section of the adjustable pivot; Fig. 7 is a horizontal section of the same on the line 7-7 of Fig. 6;.Fig. 8 is a plan of a modified form of adjustable pivot; and Fig. 9 is a sectional view of a modified form of door and jamb.

In-the form shown in Fig. 4, a `bronze saddle 13 lies underneath the door and abuts against'the set-out vportion of the platform,
' and in the form shown in Fig. 5, a bronze saddle 14 having aset-out portionl isy employed,which also-abuts against thek set-out portion of the platform.` In they firstv form 'the swinging door abuts against the set-out portion9'of the platform, while in the latter,^the door abuts against the bronze setout portion l`15 of the saddle. Holes 16 are drilled' in the platform and lintel at either side thereof, having their center approximately in the v`aXisof the roundedends ll and 12Aof the door, and-'bronze rings `1=7 prof `vided-on their inner-surface with teeth arev 'secured by babbitting or other-suitable means into'thesaid holes beforethe'g'ranite or concr'et'e is set. After'the same is set, the eccentricy rings 18 of bronze provided on their inner and outer surfaces withteeth andre@- centric rings 19 lof bronze having yteeth on their outer surface are interlocked with the said rings 17 to receive pivots. As will be seen, the pivot hole thus formed may be varied in any direction by changing the positions of the various rings with respect `to each other. When the rings are properly v arranged, the doors are set thereon, and
bolts or pivots 20, provided-in rece sses21y in the doors are slid into the same and secured in place by screws 22. i In the form shown in Fig. 8, disks 23 having apertures 24 are secured into the; lintel and platform in the manner above described.
'Ihe said apertures may be square (as shown), rectangular, polygonal, or other suitable shape, into which a plate 25 of corresponding shape is adapted to be fitted.
When the structure is set up, the exact pivot' points are ascertained on the plates 24C and holes 2G drilled therein accordingly, for receiving the bolts or pivots 20 of the door.
In Fig. 9 a modified form of door and joint is shown, in which the pivoted end of the door is engaged or checked by a set-out portion 29 of the jamb at its front edge, and at its rear edge by a set-out portion 30 thereof. The intermediate portions 27 and 2S of the door and 31 and 82 of the jamb are so shaped that in swinging, all points of the door will clear the jamb. In this form, the top vand bottom of the door are also abutted at the rear by a set-out portion of the 'platform and lintel, as in the i'irst described form.
It is obvious that in this way an exact fitting of the door is obtained, so that there can be no loose joints, to permit the leaking in of water or the like.
I have illustrated preferred and satisfactory forms of my invention, but it is obvious that changes may be made therein and that vother materials than bronzes and granitos may be used as well, without departing from the spirit and scope thereof, as defined in the appended claims.
I claim l. In a pivoted door adapted to swing outwardly, a set-out check on the sill, and a set-out check on the lintel, said checks being adapted to engage the upper and lower rear edges of the door in closed position, a door-frame provided with a set-out check on the jainb adapted to engage the front edges of the door in closed position, the pivotal point of the said door being at the upper and lower ends of the said door, and at a point removed from the side of the said door the front edges of the door adapted to engage the said set-out checks of the jamb in closed position, and to swing free of the said checks in open position, and the rear edges of the said door being adapted to clear the said checks of the lintel and sill in open position.
2. In a pivoted door adapted to swing outwardly, a door-frame provided with a set-out check on thejamb, adapted to engage the front edges of the door in closed position, a second set-out check on the j amb adapted to engage the rear edges of the door, a set-out check on the sill, a set-out check on the lintel adapted to engage the upper and lower rear edges of the door in closed position, the pivotal point of the said door being at the upper and lower ends of the said door at a point removed from the side of the said door, the front edges of the door adapted to engage the said first-mentioned set-out check of the jarnb in closed position and to swing free of the said check in open position, and the rear edges of the door being adapted to clear the said lastmentioned check of the jarnb and the checks of the lintel and sill in open position.
3. In a pivoted door adapted to swing outwardly, and having its ends shaped to snugly fit the door-frame in closed position, a door-frame provided with a set-out check on the jainb adapted to engage the front edges of the door in closed position, a set-out check on the sill, and a set-out check on the lintel adapted to engage the upper and lower rear edges of the door in closed position, the pivotal point of the said door being at the upper and lower ends of the said door and at a point removed from the side of the said door, the front edges of the door adapted to engage the said set-out checks of the j amb in closed position, and to swing free ,of the said checks in open position, and the rear edges of the said door being adapted to clear the said checks of the lintel and sill in open position.
