This invention relates to vulcanizers, and is more particularly adapted for use in connection with the repairing of punctures and rents in pneumatic tires.
, One of the objects of this invention is the construction of a vulcanizer for vulcanizing either punctures or long rents in a tire, or the same may be used for repairing two or more tires at the same time.
Another object of this invention resides in the construction of a vulcanizer comprising a plurality of burners separate and distinct from each other whereby one or more may be used as the occasion requires resulting in the saving of the gasolene or other combustible fluid used for heating.
A still further object of this invention resides in the provision of a vulcanizer of few parts, simple in construction, efiicient and durable in purpose, cheap to manufacture, and which may be readily transported from place to place.
These. and other objects will more fully appear and the nature of the invention will be more clearly understood by the construction, combination and arrangement of the parts thereof, as described in the following specification, defined in the appended claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,
Figure 1 is a perspective view'of the vulcanizer showing the same in complete form ready for use. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view of the vulcanizer showing the interior construction thereof. Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse view partly in section taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2, and showing the mounting of the heating bars within the vulcanizer.
Referring to the drawings, 1 denotes the .base of the device provided at each of the four corners thereof with the projecting lugs 2 and upon which lugs are secured the vertically extending screw threaded bolts 3 pro vided with the thumb nuts l. Mounted upon the base 1 is the trough 5 provided with the bottom 6, side walls 7 and end walls 8, and at each of the four corners of the trough 5 adjacent the bottom edge thereof are provided the ears 9, these ears are designed to lie in a plane above that of the ears 9. of the base 1. For securing the trough 5 to the base 1 are the transversely extend ing bars 10 arranged at each end of the trough 5 and extending from each of the opposing bolts 3 of the lugs 2 at the respective ends of the trough. The bars 10 are apertured at each of the ends thereof for" embracing the bolts 3, one end of each of the bars however, being provided with the slot way 11 extending from the apertures to the exterior edge of the bars 10, the slot ways 11 being provided for adapting the bars 10 to be swung around laterally from the bolts 3 at the respective ends, the opposite end of the bar being retained upon the opposing bolts 3 at the opposite corners of the device, when the bars 10 are in position for securing the ears 2 and 9 of the respective base and trough, the same is held secured together under the action of the thumb nuts 4. Interposed between the base 1 and the bottom 6 of the trough 5 is the body of'insulating material 12 which may be asbestos or any other suitable heat insulating material, its purpose being to conserve the heat generated by the combustion in the compartments by preventing it from passing to the base.
For carrying the vulcanizer from point to point or for lifting the member 5 while hot, to or from the base 1 handles or bails 13 are provided, the same being attached to each end of the trough 5 through the medium of the hook ends 14 passing through apertures thereat and retained thereon. Within the interior of the trough is provided a plurality of transversely and vertically arranged walls or partitions 15 for dividing the trough into a plurality of compartments or burners 16, and into which is designed to be poured gasolene or other com: bustible fluid to be ignited.
\Vithin each of the compartments or burners 16. are a plurality of transversely disposed vertical separating and heating bars 17, the ends of the heating bars 17 being remote from the side walls 7 of the trough 5 to provide spaces therebetween. The separating or heating bars 17 are preferably t'apezoidal in shape in cross section, the broader edge of the same being at the bottom of the trough, the walls of the bars converging upwardly for the more efiicient separation of the flames and the distributi on of the heat therefrom.
The vulcanizer may be constructed of any material suitable for use in structures of this character. The trough 5 may be of any desired width and depth as well as length, tlxe trough however, is provided longitudinally of its length with a plurality of compartments or any number of the same desirable, the compartments being formed by the partition walls 15, and within which compartments are arranged any desired number of the heating and distributing bars 17 though preferably from 3 to 5.
The use and operation of the vulcanizer is clear from the foregoing description and the disclosure in the drawing, however it may be here stated that when a slight puncture is to be repaired in a pneumatic tire it is only necessary to fill one of the compartments with the combustible fluid and ignite the same placing the puncture of the tire thereunder, but it the damage to the tire he in the shape of a rent of greater or less length the vulcanizer is placed longitudinally oi. the tire and as many of the sue-cessive compartments ignited as is necessary. A gain should two orinore tires be punctured the same may be vulcanized and repaired at one time by placing the vulcanizer trans versely of the tires thus positioning a burner at each of the injured portions of the tire, whereby one or more tires may he eii'iciently maaaea and readily repaired in a short period of time.
While the preferred form of the invention has been here shown and described, the right is hereby reserved to make such alterations and variations therein as may be deemed expedient and which will not depart from the spirit of the invention or conflict with the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus fully described our invention whatwe claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is A vulcanizer comprising a rectangular trough, said trough. having projecting ears at the corners thereof adjacent the bottom edge; a rectangular base portion having projecting lugs on each corner thereof said lugs having vertically extending screw threaded bolts provided with thumb nuts; a transverselyextending bar at each end of the trough, resting upon the said eats, said bars having apertures registering with and adapted to receive thesaid bolts in said apertures, and a slotway connecting the aperture in one end of said bar with the edge thereof, whereby the said tifough is clamped to the said base, thereby causing a close contact of the said trough and base when desired.
