To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES MCGILLIVRAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sacramento, in the county of Sacramento and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Re.- vetments, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates specifically to revetments made up wholly or in part from individually constructed units in the form of slabs of reinforced concrete, and has for its object an improvement in the formation of such units whereby they may be more conveniently and readily laid and secured to assembling or anchoring cables.
Therefore the invention consists in the structure of parts and combination of ele. ments substantially as hereinafter set forth and claimed.
To fully disclose the invention reference is made to the accompanying drawings which form apart of this specification and wherein Figure 1 isa plan of a portion of a revetment embodying the invention; Fig. 2 a longitudinal section of the structure in Fig. 1 taken in the plane indicated by the line 2--2; and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the units of the revetment on a larger scale.
In the improved revetment unit but one end thereof is grooved for the assembling or anchoring cable .the other end being left square or somewhat rounded as desired. The ungrooved end of one unit abuts the grooved end of its neighbor and so confines the cable in the groove which is made deep enough to wholly include the cable. The cable being thus confined wholly in one of the abutting units permits the units to be more readily tied closely together and also provides for a greater degree of upward displacement between adjacent units where the surface covered by the revetment is uneven. The side edges of the units may be square or rounded as desired.
The drawings show the improved unit at 5 and the manner of forming a revetment therefrom.
The cable grooves are indicated at 6 and cables therein are numbered 7, 8, 9 and 10.
The units in one end tier of the revetment are preferably grooved at both ends as indicated at 11. This extra groove 6 is preferably of less depth than the thickness of the cable 10 so that the units may be more firmly tied to said cable. The ties 12 at the ends of the revetment are preferably rods passed through the holes 13 in the slabs and hooked or twisted together. This form of tie or any other form may be used throughout the revetment. The form preferred, however, for the interior portion of the revetment consists of the Ushaped rod 14- and link 15. The units may have one tie hole in each end or two as desired. The tie holes are preferably belied at their ends as indicated in Fig. 2 and the slabs are preferably reinforced with rods as indicated at 16. The cables may be anchored where desired and in any suitable manner as ex emplified at 17.
In assembling the slabs in a revetment the cables may have their lower ends connected together in any suitable way as by washers 18 below which the ends of the cables may be knotted as at 19 or provided with collar and wedge as at 20, or one cable may be tied across the lower side of the lowermost unit to an adjacent cable as at 21, where cable 9 is tied to the anchored cable 10.
The invention claimed 1s 1. A revetment unit consisting of a slab of concrete provided with a groove along one end equal in depth to the thickness of an anchoring cable and having the opposite end ungrooved and having also transverse tie holes at the ends for the purpose set forth.
2. In a revetment the combination of cables for the purpose specified, concrete slabs provided at their ends with transverse tie holes and each having a cable groove eX- tending along one end deep enough to receive the entire thickness of one of said ca bles, and having the opposite end ungrooved, and ties for uniting said slabs together with the ungrooved ends abutting the grooved ends and thereby confining the cables in said grooves.
