Uur invention relates to the manufacture of metallic filamentincandescent lamps.
It is preferable to employ as thin filament holders as possible for incandescent lamps having metallic filaments particularly in order to be able to fuse as large a number as possible of the holders at a sufficient dis` tance apart in as small glass 'beads as possible, in order to `diminish the conduction of heat from the filaments. In incandescent lamps, in which a continuous metal Wire is wound on the filament holders, one is limited however in the selection of the thickness of and the incandescent filament is then Wound,`
in the customary manner. Owing to the winding the filament obtains a certain tension,funder the influence of Which it Would contract lthe holders as soon as they are removed from the supporting device. In order to prevent this the filament is heated by a current passed through it before its re` lease from the holders. The heating may take place in the open air and a short rush of current suffices. The filament completely loses its tension and remains without tension in the position given to it.
Instead of supporting the thin holders by a special device, when the filament is being wound they may be relieved by simultaneously employing stronger holders, vvhose'sole A of example in purpose is to give the necessary resistance during the winding Operation.
