A further advantage consists in the fact that the threaded ends of the pipe are protected against being coated and that no galvanizing material can enter the interior of during the galvanizing operation.
\Vhile-I have shown my invention as being carried out in connection with hot galvanizing, it will be readily understood that my improved method is also applicable to electrogalvanizing, the. pipes being supported and moved through the electrolyte'in a manner similar to that of hot galvanizing.
This application is a division of my pending application Serial No. 776,430, filed June 28, 1913.
I claim 1. The herein described method of coating P p the ends of the pipe to be coated, at least having a vent opening, and then moving the pipe through a heated coating bath While maintaining said vent which consists in applying closures to opening above the level of the coating. ma terial in the bath, substantially as described.
2. The herein described method of coating pipes having threaded end portions, whiclt consists in applying removable ve ted closures to the ends of the pipe of a c. aracter to cover the threads thereof, and moving the pipe through a heated coating bathwhile maintaining the vent openings of said closures above the level of the coating material in the bath, substantially as described.
3. The herein described method of coating pipes, which consists in applying closures to the ends of the pipe to be coated, at least one of said closures having a vent opening, and then moving the pipe through a heated coating bath by engagement with said closures while maintaining said vent opening above the level of the coating material in the bath, substantially as described. 1
