DOUBLE-SEEING ADJUSTABLE CURTAIN-BOD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 25, 1915.
Application filed July 3, 1914. Serial No. 848,988.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGIANA A. BUCK- LEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Montrose, in the county of Montrose, and
State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain- Rods, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in curtain rods, and the object of the invention is to provide anovel and improved device of this general character whereby the same may be readily and conveniently adjusted to varying lengths and whereby such adjustments may be effectively maintained.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved curtain rod whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device is rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, all as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of the invention will be carefully defined in the appended claim.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed todescribe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view taken through one end of a curtain rod constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention; and Fig. 2 is an elevational View of the ca member as herein employed.
As disclose in the accompanying drawings, 1 denotes an extremity of an elongated tubular member having telescopically engaged therewith a tubular member 2 whereby the device may be readily adjusted to windows or the like of varying widths, and carried by the member 1 is the fiatspring 4 terminating in a lateral projection 6 adapted to extend within an opening 7 produced in the member 2 whereby the member 2 may be readily and effectively held in its varylng adjusted positions relative to the member 1. Telescopically engaged with the outer extremity of the member 2 is a tubular sleeve 3 having disposed therethrough an expansible member 8, one extremity whereof being secured, as at 9, adjacent the forward extremity of the member 3, while the opposite or inner extremity of the member 8 is secured, as at 10, to a point within the member 2. As is believed to be self-evident, the natural tendency of'the member 8 is to force the member 3 outwardly.
The outer extremity of the member 3, as herein embodied, is provided with a collar 11 having in its free marginal portion diametrically opposed open slots 12 adapted to engage a suitable hook or the like whereby it will be perceived that my improved rod may be maintained in operative position with convenience and facility. While I have herein illustrated one end portion of my improved rod, it will be self-evident that the opposite extremity will be similar.
also find it of advantage to provide the rubber cap member 5 provided with the tubular boss 14 adapted to receive the sleeve 11 whereby it will be readily perceived that when the conditions so require, my improved rod may be held in operative position at any point midway a window frame or the like by the frictional engagement of the cap 5 therewith.
From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that a curtain rod constructed in accordance with my invention is of an extremely simple and com aratively inexpensive nature and is particu arly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without material departure from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice;
I claim:
5 p A curtain rod comprising a plurality of telescoping tubular sections, an expansible member positioned within the outer sections and secured thereto whereby the outer sections are normally forced outwardly, en-
ac gaging means carried by the outer sections,
said outer sections being provided'with a sleeve provided with open slots, and a compression cap capable of removable engagement with the sleeve.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature 15 in the presence of two witnesses.
GEORGIANA A. BUOKLEY. Witnesses:
KATHRYN E. Comm, LORETTA MCCARTHY.
