Description

EFICEQ MAX ROCKSTROH, OF KLEIN SEDLITZ, NEAR PIRNA, GERMANY.
PLATEN PRINTING-PBESS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed January 26, 1914. Serial No. 814=,589.
To all whom it may concm Be it known that I, MAX RooKsTRoH, manufacturer, a subject of the King of SaXony, Germany, residing at Klein Sedlitz, near Pirna, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Platen Printing-Presses, of which the following is a specification.
In certain platen printing presses the gripper on the platen is opened by a spring which is so arranged, that its tension increases as the platen` approaches the bed. Consequently the tendency of the spring' to open the gripper increases with the approach to the bed.
The object of the present invention is to obviate this disadvantage.
To this end I use a spring engaged at one end with the gripper and at the other end with a double armed lever whereof the rocking movement in one direction is limited, said spring acting by a pull for closing the gripper by a thrust for opening same. With this arrangement the thickness of the paper does not afiect the power with which it is held, and the tension of the spring is greatest in the printing position, when the paper requires to be held most firmly.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a sectional side View, showing the gripper closed, and Fg. 2 a plan view. Fig. 3 is a sectional side View showing the gripper open.
In the drawings a designates a coiled spring, having one end attached to an arm of the gripper bar b, and the other end attached to the arm c of a double-armed lever d, the other arm of the latter being weighted or loaded with a spring. The gripper is designated e. The rocking movement of the lever d in one direction is limited by an abutment f on the arm c. When the platen is rocked into printing position the spring a is stretched as shown in F igs. l and 2. When the platen rocks back, the weighted or spring loaded lever d, acting through the spring a and tending to compress same, opens the gripper, as shown in Fig. 3, but allows the grpper to be closed by hand,`inasmuch as the lever d is able to rock.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed I declare that what I claim is:-
In platen printing presses in combination with the gripper bar thereof, a spring having one end Secured to said gripper bar, a double arm rocking lever, to one arm of which the other end of said spring is secured, and means for limiting the rocking movement of said rocking lever in one direction for allowing said spring to exert a pull for closing the grpper and a thrust for opening the same, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
MAX ROCKSTROH.
