WINFIELD JACOB TAYLOR, OF 03-1), NEBRASKA.
ADJUSTABLE NOSE-PIECE FOR EYEGLASSES.
Application filed May 3, 1913.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WVINFIELD J .VTAYLOR, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Ord, in the county of Valley and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Nose-Pieces for Eyeglasses, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to nose pieces for eye glasses and has for its. purpose to provide a device of that character wherein the degree of tension thereof may be regulated at the convenience of the wearer; and wherein the same will in no degree detract from the otherwise neat appearance of the glasses.
The invention has for its further purpose to provide a means for adjusting the tension of the nose engagingmembers which will be inexpensive to make, and which will readily commend itself as an appropriate device to all who are required to wear glasses.
With these and other objects in view the invention, consists in the novel details of construction and combination of parts more fully hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which like figures designate like parts in the several views Figure 1 is a top plan view of a pair of eye glasses showing the present invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the device in applied position and, Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the nose engaging member removed.
Referring to the construction in further detail and wherein like characters of reference indicate the same parts in the different views shown 1 represents the usual bridge piece of the frame, having the usual extended side portions with bifurcated ends 3 between which are secured in the usual manner the lenses 4.
The adjustable nose engaging members consist each of a finger lever forming a plate 5 having a perforation 5*, and constructed with a loop 6 to form a member Specification of Letters Patent.

which carries the nose engaging parts 7 and 8, At its opposite end the plate 5 is provided with a member 9 adapted to be engaged by the hand for turning the plate on its pivot screw 10 for fitting the nose engaging members to the nose.
A spring 11 is mounted on each pivot screw 10 and has its respective ends 12 and 13 engaging with the lense holding member 14 and within a notch provided by lugs 15 formed on the plate 5. A. plurality of lugs 15 are provided for forming a series of notches within either of which the spring end 13 may engage, accordingly as the nose piece is to be held with a greater or less degree or tension. Each spring is mounted above the finger lever to the end that said springs may be readily accessible for adjustment or removal, as will be understood.
The spring end 13 in each instance is perfectly straight and projects sufliciently beyond the lugs to be conveniently engaged by a member, for instance a pin, for disengaging the same from one notch and locating it in another. It will therefore be seen that this regulating means for the spring is of simple and neat design, and may be fitted to glasses of this general type without requiring any appreciable change in the construction of their frames.
It is obvious that those skilled in the art may vary the details of construction and arrangement of parts, without departing from the spirit of my invention, and therefore I do not wish to be limited to such features except as may be required by the claim.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to protect by United States Letters Patent is:
A frame for eye glasses comprising a bridge piece having lense holding members; pivot pins mounted on said bridge piece; finger levers having nose engaging portions pivotally mounted on said pivot pins, said finger levers having each a plurality of in tegral and upstanding lugs providing notches; and springs encirclingly mounted on said pivot pins above said finger levers and each having one end thereof engaging one of said lens holding members, and the In testimony whereof I affix my signature other dendsdof said springs being strfaighi in presence of tWo Witnesses.
and a apte to engage Within either 0 sai notches, said notch engaging spring rpor- WINFIELD JACOB L tions projecting beyond the pivota'lly mount- Witnesses ed members whereby to be engaged for ada H. B. VAN DEGAR,
justment Within said notches. JOHN LUSKY. 7
