Description
J. EASTERLY.
. Cooking-Stove.
No. 113,643. Patented Apr. 11, 1871 e I mnHl ml 1 M ///H I WITNESSES: 'JM 7 atria sale JAMES EASTERLY, OF ALBANY, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TOHIMSELF AND JAMES GRAY, OE SAME PLACE.
Letters Patent No. 113,643, dated April 11. 1871.
IM PROVEMENT IN COOKlNG-STOVES.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, JAMES EASTERLY, of Albany, in the county of Albany and State of New York, have invented certain Improvements in Portable Feeders or Fuel Attachments for Cooking-Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
The principal object of my invention relates to the combination of an illuminated and enlarged base with a portable reservoir or fuel attachment; also, of doors or windows, or other apertures, in the said enlarged base of portable feeder or fuel attachment, so that light will be given from the stove, and also that the fuel from the feeder may be spread in the fire-box, if required.
Another object of my invention relates to the mode of constructing the bottom or lowerend of a portable reservoir so as to accommodate its delivery of fuel in the oblong shape of fire-box generally used in cooking-stoves.
Figure l is aperspective view of my invention as applied to a cooking-stove.
Figure 2 is a front elevation and longitudinal sec tion combined.
Figure 3 is a top view and plan combined.
A is a'reservoir or fuel attachment, which is made of any convenient size, its capacity being such as to hold fuel enough to last from eight to ten hours.
The best shape for reservoirA is perhaps cylindrical.
The lower end i of reservoir A is flattened on two sides, as shown in fig. 3, which flattening causes its two ends toextend beyond the line ofthe circle forming the top and upper body of said reservoir A, as
shown in fig. 2.
By flattening the lower ends of reservoir A, as abovestated, it will be seen that the said lower end i conforms to the shape of an oblong fire-box such as are generally used in cooking-stoves.
B is the enlarged base of reservoir A. Base B is constructed as follows:
g is an oval rim' of about three-quarters of an inch deep and seven inches wide for a seven-inch stove, and
, its length equalto thensnal length of the front hole of the stove when the center piece is taken off.
Around rim g is a flange, m, extending about one inch beyond rim 9, all around it.
From the inner edge of flange m the top b oi" base B rises in an QJ'CHBdrfOl'll], as shown in figs. 1 and 2.-
as to have its lower end ta little below rim g, as shown in fig. 2, for the purpose of preventing the descending fuel from choking or closing up the direct draught of the stove.
By means of base B, a snfliciently large combustion-chamber is provided for the extra use to which the stove is subjected.
1) is a bail, attached. by ears 0 or otherwise, .near the top of reservoir A, by which it may be carried to or from the stove.
An aperture, n, is provided at the top of reservoir A, in which the fuel is put. Said aperture 11 is closed by cover a, as shown in figs. 1, 2, and 3.
If desired, base B may be constructed to cover only one hole of the stove.
By theuse. of my invention an ordinary cookin stove maybe converted at pleasure into a self-feeding stove during the long, cold winter nights of ournorthern climate.
It will be seen from the above that, to use my invention, it will be necessary to take off the two front covers and the center piece of the stove, then lift up the attachment by its bail D and place the rim 9 in the oblong hole on the top of the stove over the tirebox of the same, then fill up the reservoir with fuel, and put cover a in place; theiuby'nieans. of registers in the fi'ont doors or the hearth of the stove, "or by other means provided for that purpose, the draught to the fire may be so regulated as to make it burn all night; then, in the morning, the portable attachment may be removed and the cooking-stove placed in its former position.
That I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. Base B, constructed witlrdoors or windows 0, in combination with a fuel-reservoir A, substantially-as and for the purposes set forth'. M
2. The combination and arrangement of base B,
reservoir A, and hail D, as and for the purpose \Vitncsscs:
