Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed November 11, 1914. Serial No. 871,573.
' To all whom it may concern pose of enabling the menthol to be used as a pencil or for inhaling purposes and the in- 6111310113180 aims to provide means for obtaming a more eifectlve mhalatlon than is usual with such devices. To these ends my invention is embodied in preferable form in 'the device hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
' In these drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of a menthol holder; Fig. 2, a side view in elevation of the device with part of the cover or case removed; Fig. 3, an edge view of holder and case; Fig. 4:, a top plan view of the holder shown in F ig. 1 and Fig.
5, a vertical section through the complete device.
Referring to the drawings, 1 is a hollow metal rectangular holder open at one end and closed at the other end by an end wall 2 which is rounded off laterally and at the ends. wall and these openings are spaced apart longitudinally of the end wall a sufficient distance to fit both nostrils and of a size and shape to simultaneously fit the nostrils when the holder is pressed against the lower part of the nose of the user. This arrangement permits an inhalation to be drawn in through both nostrils at the same time. The body of the holder, adjacent the closed end and inwardly approximately to the center of the holder is provided with a series of apertures 4, through which air is drawn into the holder. The holder is turned with the closed end down and smallpieces of menthol 5, placed in the same, until the holder is about half filled Then a solid cake of menthol 6 is forced into the holder at the other end, its inner face constituting a base for the broken pieces of menthol and Copies of this patent may be obtained for Openings 3 are formed in the end its outer end, projecting beyond the holder trifgrm a pencil which may be directly app 1e v The holder is adapted to be inclosed within a case which consists. ofabox having two removable slip members 7 and8 adapted to fit. over the holder and having their inner edges abutting when the box is closed.
The powdered or broken menthol at one end of the holder provides a mass into Patented Apr. 13,1915. 7
which the air is drawn more intimately andfrom which the material is more readily absorbed and carried along by the inhalation than in such arrangements as employ merely a solid cake. end of the holder permit the device to be applied to both nostrils at the same time thus increasing the convenience of use.-
In operation one or the other .of the' cover parts 7 and 8 is slipped off, according to whether the article is to be used as an inhaler or a pencil, and either the apertured end 3'applied tothe nostrils and the air The openings in the, v
drawn through openings 4 and through the menthol in the holder, or the projecting end of the cake 6 used as a pencil.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is,
A medicament container comprising ahollow rectangular'holder open at one end and having a solid cake of medicinal material inserted into the holder at said open end, the inner end of said cake being projected into the interior of the holder and forming a base for a supply of, lumps of medicinal material, said holder having a closing wall at the other end provided with a pair of' nostril en a ing openings spaced apart longitudina lly of said end wall and said holder having'apertures in its side walls between the end of the cake and the closing wall for the purpose of admitting airto the lumps of material;
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal at Indianapolis, Indiana,
this 15th day of October, A. D. nineteen.
hundred and'fourteen.
