Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 23, 1915.
Application filed March 18, 1814. Serial No. 825,612.
To all whom it ma concern.
Be it known t at I, ERNEST E. LLOYD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Missoula, in the county of Missoula and State of Montana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in VVagon- Seats; and I do hereby declare the following to be a fu1I, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same;
This invention relates to seats for wagons and other similar vehicles; and it.consists in the novel construction and combination of the'parts hereinafter fully described and claimed whereby the seat may be clamped to the body of the vehicle in various positions.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of a portion of a wagon body provided with a seat according to this invention. Fig. 2 is a detail end view of one of the clamping devices. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the same.
The body or box 2 is of any approved construction, and 3 is the seat which is supported by springs 4 above two seat bars 5. The seat bars have hooks 6 which roject from them and engage with the sides 0 the body or box 2.
In order to prevent the seat bars from sliding and tilting out of place, a clam ing plate 16 is secured to each seat bar a ove the lower portion of the spring which is bolted to it. This clamping plate has a socket 7 on its upper side and a slot 8. A clam ing bolt 9 is slidable-in the socket 7 and as a projecting rib 10 which engages with the slot 8 so that the bolt is prevented from revolving. The bolt has a thumb-nut 12 at one end for tightening it, and at its other end it has a downwardly projecting clamping member 14. A clamping member 15 is secured to the side of the seat bar op- The combination, with a vehicle body provided with a side, of a seat, a seat bar normally slidable on the said side, a leaf spring secured to the seat and bearing on the seat bar, a clamping plate secured to the seat barover the lowerpart of the spring and provided with a socket, a non-revoluble clamping bolt slidable longitudinally inthe said socket and having at one end a downwardly projecting clamping member provided with a convex face which bears against the outer I surface of the body side, a clamping member secured to theseat bar and provided with a convex face which bears against the inner surface of the body side, and means for operatin the clamping bolt to secure and release t e seat.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature in the i'esen'ce of two witnesses.
