According to' this invention, the movement of the ball o1 the like is controlled b v means, hereinafter termed drivers, which are capable of both reciprocatory and rotary movements whereby the ball or the like can be urged in any desired direction.

In order that this invention may be clearly understood and readily carried into eifect, I will proceed to describe`the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, which show certain embodiments of the invention, and wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of one form of the apparatus, showing the position of the ball and drivers as they might appear in play. Fig.` 2 is an enlarged broken view in perspective of one of the driversland its operating means illustrated` in Fig. 1; and, Fig. 3 is a view in perspective of one side of a modified form of the apparatus.y

Describing the form of apparatus shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings, A is the game board partly surrounded by guards or rails B which are so constructed as to prevent the ball rolling off the board and also allow for movement of the drivers C 'over same. The game board is also provided with parallel guides in, the form of slots or grooves a extending from end to end thereof. The drivers are intended to work along Asaid guides a, and they may comprise wire lor other forks fashioned somewhat after the form of a Y, (shown more clearly in Fig. 2), the o'uter portions c of the mutually opposite limbs or arms of which are bent inward so ais to lie parallel with one another. Projecting from the junction of said limbs or arms with the stem c', and at right angles to the plane of the Y, is provided a somewhat U-shaped extension, the outer Specification of Letters Patent.

A pair of rods D, hereinafter termed operating-rods, adapted'to work side by side, is also provided, and such rods are connected together at onefend by the U- shaped extension c2, c3 and at the other-end by another U-shaped wire or the like E',

the limbs of which latter, after passingy through the operating rods, are'iXed in an operating knob E or the like. The limb c3 of each driver is ventered into one of the. slots 'a of the boardand is provided with a washer c4, or other device, which rests on opposite 'sides of the slot and raises the Y clear of the boa-rd. Tt wil'l be seen that by coupling the drivers C and the knobs E to .the oper-ating rods D in the manner described the former can be readily turned in a rotary direction by twisting the knobs.

There may be any desired number of drivers provided andv a corresponding number of pairs of operating rods, a convenient arrangement being that shown in Fig. 1 in which there are six drivers arranged to work along a corresponding number vof grooves a in the board, three of them being operated from one end of the board and alternating with the remaining three which are operated from the opposite end thereof.

The board is provided with a goal at each end, and when the board has six grooves a, the goals are preferably arranged at the ends of thetwo middle grooves thereof respectively. The goals are defended by goalkeepers F which are of similar construction to the drixers C (excepting that they have no lstems (0'), the inner limb f of the V- shaped extension working in a suitable suplport in the board and the outer limb f being connected to a rod G adapted to be moved longitudinally in guides g, and provided with .an operating handle g. The farther rod g is not visible in Fig. 1, but its operating handle g' vcan be seen. V

The board is provided with downwardly projecting ends a which serve to raise it from the table or other surface on which it is placed and through which ends the operating rods D work. .The limbs c2 0* of the drivers are continued down below the operating rods, asv shown in Fig. 2, so as to engage the downwardly projecting ends a of the board when the operating rods are drawn back to their farthest limit and thus prevent their being withdrawn altogether. Spots a2 are provided on the board to indicate the positions the drivers should occupy at the commencement of play or upon restarting after a goal has been scored. In playing, the ball H is placed on a spot a3 in the centen of the board and the object of the gameis '-to force it through the opponents goal, whichs done by one of the players suitably manipulating his driver.' Immediately the ball commences moving, the opponents operate their drivers, sol as 'to defend their goal and attack the goal of the opposing side, to do which .they can move the drivers along the slots and at the same time, if necessary, impart rotary movement to the drivers by turning the operating knobs. The opposing side then acts similarly. The `players can either manipulate the drivers so as to receive the ball between the limbs of the Y `or strike it with the stem and outersides of the limbs thereof, and thus urge it in any direction they please. The goalkeepers are operated by moving their rods G backward or forward so as to turn them in the desired direction.

The game may be taken part in by two, three or four players, who sit at each end of the board and control the drivers or strikers :by means of the operating knobs, as already explained. When one player controls one of the goal-keepers only, he may sit at the side u of the board. What claim as my invention andA desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:

1. an operating device connected to each driver for alternatively rotating it or shifting it forward or backward.

4. Game apparatus comprising la game board, Y-shaped ball drivers movable therev over, and means for operating said drivers. 5. Game yapparatus comprising a game board, Y-shaped drivers movable thereover, and means for imparting both reciprocator1 and rotary movements to saidl drivers;

6. Game apparatus comprising a game board, Y-shaped drivers movable thereover, and an operating device individual to each driver for imparting both reciprocatory and rotary movements thereto.
