be employed for holding the bex in closed or operative position, sncli for exemple as that siiown, consisting of u pivotnlly mounted pin l0, baring-a reduced stem or end 11 adapted to extend through the top oi the box end slotted ior the reception of a wedge i2 i By reference io Fig. l ir will be seen that the box, if the side were milde of :1 Width equal to the length of the end pieces, could not be turned buck to permit of :iccess'totbe inner 'ends of tbe tubes 4, while a man is In rder topermit of tliis'sliifting of the box, the side will 7 does no4; extend tbe full width of the box, and that a complete closure of the box is elfected by :i removable bood or cap 8. The ends of 'Lillie bood rest on the end wells 5, one edge beurs against he inner Wall of the drum, bezween tbe 'ends of adjacent rows of tubes, and the opposite edge rests on e ledge formed by e strip of metal l1 riveted to the side weil 7. The bood is held in/ position by ineens of buttons 14 mounted Aon the ends l o die pins l0. in addition to permitting i ne turning buck of the box as before s ated the removable hood .idmits of easy Cess to tbe inerior of the box for the removal of material which cannot be blown oni es hereinafter described.
The blow-nii" pipe or pipes 15 extend' n the side opposite the inner ends of the ubes #i us shown in I`ig. l, so that when the now-0E valve is opened the 'Water Will rush across che box sweeping the sludge toward :ind through the blow-off pipe. As the streams or" water will converge toward the blew-off ipe. deposits atene ends and other peres of t ie box may not be entirely remore Provision is therefore ine de for causing t na'ter eo I'iow adjacent to tbe ends and all other parts of ilie box toward the outlet or blow-ofi pipe. To this end e Wall or mtirien 'i6 is so arrnnged long ,z'itudinfill)I of the box end preferably secured to its side wall :is shown, so es io form ev blow-off chamber .viii which elle blowbf pipe connects. A
series of holes l? are formed ai suit-ble inierreis hrougb this pznfition haring :i con1- bined capacity suitably proportioned relative to the delivery eu'iozimty of the blow-off brongii tbe Wall of tbe drum into the box pipe, so that there wid be a strong flow of waiter 'brongli :all 'elle holes und from each of Lire leiter ownrd ille blow-oli pipe. As llie bolos are disributed along the entire length ofthe partition, all parts of the box Vwil be brought under the action of the water lowingfrom the tubes 4.
I claim herein as my invention:
1. The' combination with a Water tube boiler, of a box arranged in one of the drums to inclose and isolate the ends of n portion of thecrculating tubes, and the blow-off nozzle, and a perforated partition interposed between the ends-of the tubes and the blow-off nozzle. i
2. The combination with a water tube boiler, of a box arranged in one of the drums to inclose and isola-te the ends of n portion of the circulating tubes and the feed and blow-oif nozzles, a. portion of the side or outer Wall of the box being detachable.
3.4The combination With a Water tube boiler, of a box hinged to the drum and adapted to inclose and isolate the ends'of a portion of the circulating tubes and the feed und blow-Oifnozzles, e portion of the main vor outer Wall of the box being detachable.
4. The combina-tion with a Water tube boiler, of a. bon hinged to the drum md adapted .to incloseandisolate the ends of e. portion of the circulating tubes and the feed and blow-oil' nozzles, a portion of the box being detachable, and Ineens for holding the.
box and detachable sition.
5. The combination with n Water tube boiler, oi a box arranged in one of the drums portion in operative poto inclose ,and isolate the endsof a portion z my hand. 1
