ARCHSUPPORT,
Specification of Letters Patent.
Fatented Fen. lili, itali..
Application led July 22, 1914. Serial No. 852,438.
.To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that we, LEON Lonr. and NoRvIN FRANK, citizens of the United States, and residents of the borough of Manhattan, city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new` and useful Improvements in Arch-Supports, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
The object of our invention is to provide a support for the arch of a foot having resilient rproperties adapted to perform a lmeading or massaging office during the arnbulatory movement of its wearer'.
Referring now to the accompanying drawings, Figure l, is support embodying our invention, partly broken away and partly shown in dotted lines to illustrate the elements composing our preferred embodiment of the present invention; Fig. 2, is a vertical cross section taken at the line 2--2 of Fig. 1, and; Fig. 3, is a side view of Fig. l, looking in the direction of the arrow of Fig. 2.
Referring now in detail to the drawings, l is a base plate in any suitable form, and which is adapted to liev adjacent to the inner sole of a shoe; 2 is a fan consisting ofV a plurality of lingers, and which is preferably made of spring metal. This fan is fastened at one end in any suitable manner to the base plate l, the lingers projecting there` from in such contour so as 'to support the arch of a foot. Over this fan 2 is suitably fastened to the hase plate a covering 3 of leather or other suitable alinernent element 4f preferably substantially follows in contour the outline of the free ends of the lingers of spring alinernent element is fastened by rivets 5 or otherwise to one or more of the central fingers of the fan. The ends of this spring alinement element 4f lie on the base plate 1hut are preferably not attached thereto thus insuring full free spring action therein.
We have also provided in our device a supplemental spring 6, one end of which is -riveted or s plate by a fastening element 7, the other end a plan view of an arch Aforth tached to said base material. A spring'v the fan 2, which i.
Otherwise fastened lto the lease` of which'is bent upward and brought into loose contact with the spring alinement element 4f.
It will be obvious from our construction as above described and shown, that the action of our arch support will be such when 1n operation to support the arch of 'a foot that, when in the act of walking, it will perform a constant resilient movement effecting a gentle massage to the foot, as well as givlng' great comfort to the wearer.
life have described and illustrated our preferred embodiment of this invention; but do not desire to he limited to the exact construction shown.
What we in the appended claims.
Claims` l. ln an arch support, a base plate, a fan having a plurality of fingers attached to said base plate, a spring alineinent element attached to one or more of said ngers, said spring element also acting to keep said lingers in alinement, a supplementalspring atplate and adapted to alinement element, and a cover aflixed to the upper side of said base plate so as to maintain the other elements thereof out of actual contact with a foot.
2. In an arch support, a base plate, a fan having "a plurality of ngers attached to said hase plate, a spring alinement element attached to one or more of said fingers, said spring element also acting to keep said n gers in alinement, and a supplemental spring attached to said hase plate and adapted to support said spring alinement element.
3. ln an arch support, a base plate, a fan attached to said base plate, a spring element attached to said fan, and a. supplemental spring attached to said hase plate and adapted to support said` spring element.
l. ln an arch support, a base plate, a fan having a plurality of fingers attached to said hase plate and a springI element at- Jcached td one or more of said fingers, said spring element also acting to keep said fingers in alinement.
support said spring' 5. ln an arch support, ahase plate, a fan 10,0
desire to cover by patent is set tached -to said base plate and adapted to support said fan.
LEON LOBEL. NORVIN FRANK.
