Be it known that 1, ELMER Len HARMON, citizen of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Poster-Mountings, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to a poster mounting and has for its object to provide a mounting, in the manner as hereinafter set forth, for reinforcing and mounting sectional posters of large size, more particularly posters of the lithographie type used for advertising and display purposes in connection with moving picture or other theaters. Although the mounting is designed primarily for sectional theatrical display posters, yet it is to be understood, that the mounting is adaptable for use in connection with enlarged posters employed for advertising or displaying articles of merchandise.

A further object of the invention is to provide a poster mounting for not only reinforcing the edges of a poster but furthermore for increasing the life of the poster.

A further object of the invention is to provide a poster mounting having suilicient thickness of material to provide necessary body for supporting an eyelet when connected in position and to further provide a poster mounting which will facilitate the positioning of the poster for display and advertising purposes.

A further object of the invention is to provide a picture mounting having means to prevent the sagging of the poster at the center from its top and to further prevent the bulging of the poster at the center.

A further object of the invention is to provide a poster mounting which will permit of the poster being folded when the occasion so requires.

Further objects of the invention are to provide a poster mounting which is simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, increasing the life of the poster, readily set up and inexpensive.

1With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel construction, and arrangement of mounting as hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated on accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.

By way of example the poster as illustrated consists of nine sections indicated at 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 1li and 15. r1`he poster is of the well known lithographie type and the material employed is paper. The sec tions of the poster are arranged in abutting engagement to form a picture without a break. rFhe sections 7 and 9 form the upper corners and lthe sections 13, 15 the lower corners of the body of the poster.

Secured to the inner face of the section 7 are a pair of reinforcing strips 16, 17, the former being iush with the outer side edge of said section and the latter with the top edge of the section. The strip 16 extends from the top edge and projects beyond the bottom edge of the section 7 and slightly overlaps the section 10. 'llhe strip 17 is secured upon the strip 16 and projects from the inner side edge of the section 7 and slightly upon the section 8. The reinforc ing strips 16, 17 are flexible. rlhe strip 17 is secured to the strip 16 as at 19.

The section 8 has secured to its inner face a flexible reinforcing strip' 26, which is flush with the top edge of said section 8 and is overlapped by and secured to the strip 17, as at 18. The strip 26 projects from one side edge of the section 8.

The section 9 has secured to its inner face a pair of reinforcing strips 20, 21, the former is flush with the outer side edge of the section 9 and extends from the top edge of said section 9 and projects slightly upon the section l2. The strip 21 is positioned at the top edge of the section 9, is overlapped by and secured to the strip 26 and overlaps and is secured to the strip 20.

rlhe sections 10, 12 have secured to their inner faces flexible reinforcing strips 26,

and that strip secured to the section 10 is overlapped by and secured to the strip 16 and the strip 26 which is secured to the section 12 is overlapped by and secured to the strip 20. The strips 26 project from the sections 10, 12 and slightly over the sections 13, 15.

The section 13 has secured to its inner face a pairv of reinforcing strips 22, 23, and the former has its ends flush with the upper and lower edges of the section 13. The strip 23 is flush with the lower edge of the section 13 and overlaps and is secured to the lower end of the strip 22. rlhe strip 23 projects from the section 13 and slightly upon the section lil.

The section 11i has secured to the inner face, as well as being flush with its lower edge, a reinforcing strip similar to the reinforcing strip 26, and which is indicated at 8a. The strip 8EL is overlapped by and secured to the strip 23 and further projects from the section 14 and on to the section 15. The section 15 has secured to its inner face a pair of reinforcing strips 211, 25, the former is overlapped by and secured to the strip 26, as at 2i', and said strip 2i is furthermore flush with the bottom edge of the strip 15. The strip 25 is overlapped by and secured to the strip 82 and further overlaps the lower end of the strip 24E.

The sections 8, 10, 12 and 1liof the poster are termed the intermediate sections, the section 11 is termed the central section and when a poster of a greater number of sections than thatl as shown is employed, the sections of the poster between the corner sections are termed the intermediate sections, and the sections of the poster between the intermediate sections are termed the central sections.

rIhe central section of the poster body is never reinforced.

rlihe mounting further includes a backing of fiexible material, as indicated at 28 and to said backing is secured the sections of the poster and also the reinforcing strips. iVhen the backing 28 is in position, the reinforcing strips of the various sections of the poster are interposed between said sections of the poster, as well as the reinforcing strips, and secured to the backing 28, by a suitable adhesive material. When the seetions of the poster are secured to the baclring 28, the said sections abut so that the picture displayed by the poster will. not be broken.

The top edge of the mounting, may be provided with a plurality of eyelets, for the purpose of hanging the poster and at each overlapping portion of the strips at the top of the poster, preferably an eyelet is provided. 'l'he eyelet is indicated at 29, and where .it is positioned four thicknesses of material are arranged as at 30, 31, 32 and 33. rlhe four thicknesses of material provide su'licient body to prevent the tearing out of the eyelet.

rlhe backing 2S is formed of a suitable fabric and when the paper sections of the poster are secured thereto, it is obvious that the life of the said sections will be increased, and as the reinforcing strips are employed in a position as hcreinbeforc referred to, the edges of the poster are prevented from being torn.

1. A mounting comprising a plurality of poster sections, a flexible backing having the sections of the poster secured thereon in abutting engagement, and reinforcing strips secured to the inner faces of certain of the sections of the poster and further secured to the backing, certain of the said reinforcing strips overlapping.

2. A mounting comprising a plurality of poster sections, a iexible backing having the sections of the poster secured thereon in abutting engagement, and reinforcing strips secured to the inner faces 0f certain of the sections of the poster and further secured to the backing, certain of the said reinforcing strips overlapping, and eyelets arranged at certain of the overlapping portions of the strips.

3. A mounting comprising a plurality of poster sections, fiexible backing having the sections of the poster secured thereto for maintaining said sections in abutting engagement, and reinforcing strips secured to the inner faces of certain of the sections of the poster and further secured to said backing.
