The individual or intermediately Jformed wearing plates 5 and 6 and `thrust ring 9 make practical the use of cast steel bearing members having littlev or no finish, inas- -inuch as the load supporting surfaces and outer ends of the rollers have contact only with the said members 5, 6 and 9, and these members being made from" machine or tool steel, will be given the desired finish in the natural process of making the same from commercial sheets or other stock. Preferably, small and long bearing rollers are employed because these afford a greater number 'of bearing points and less taper and resulting out-thrust on the rollers, and, furthermore, give a reater degree of rotation to the rollers, which results in distributing the wear better on the rollers and reduces the tendency to flatten the same. Also, 'rollers of small diameter reduce the total height between the top and bottom ofthe bearing plates, and this is important in many instances where space is limited. Furthermore, the arrangement described permits of ready and easyreplacing or renewal of worn out bearing plates.
What I claim is:
1. In acenter bearing, the combination with upper and lower bearing members and individually formed annular wearing plates applied thereto, of radially disposed rollers v interposed between said wearing plates, said 'bearing plates having hubs telescoped, one
into the other a retaining device applied to theouter of said hubs and immediately underlapping the inner ortion of the adjacent wearing plate, the caring plate having the inner of said hubs being provided with a surface engaging the adjacent wearing plate, but terminated short of the inner edge thereof to afford clearance for said retaining dev-ice.
In 'a center bearing, the combination with upper and lower bearing members, and individually formed wearing4 plates applied thereto, of radially disposed rollers inter-' posed between said wearing plates, means interlocking b oth of said wea-rin plates to one of said bearing members, wit freedom forl rotary movements of said wearing plates with their respective bearin members and in respect to eachother, an a thrust ring directly interposed between the outer portions of said wearingplates and engageable with the outer ends of'said rollers.
3. rI`he combination with upper and lower ibearing members, the former having a depending sleeve-like hub and a depending thrust flange, and the latter having an upwardly extended sleeve-like hub telescoped into the hub of said upper member, of -individually formed annular wearing plates loosely applied to said bearing members, radially disposed conical `rollers interposed between said wearing plates, a thrust ring seated against the thrust llange of said upper bearing member and engaging the outer ends of said rollers, and a retaining iiiig interlocked to the hub of said upper bearing member and immediately underlapping the inner edge of the lower wearing plate, and thereby interlocking the said wearing plates and rollers to the upper bearing meniber.
4. The combination with upper and lower bearing members, the former having a dependinff sleeve-like hub and a depending thrust lange, and the latter having an upwardly extended sleeve-like hub tclescoped into the hub of said upper member, of individually formed annular wearing plates loosely a )plied to said bearing members, radially disposed conical rollers interposed between said wearing plates, a retaining ring interloclred to the hub of said upper bearinf member and immediately underlapping the inner edge of the lower wearing plate, and thereby interlocking the said wearing plates and rollers to the upper bearing member, and an expansiblc thrust ring spring seated against the thrust iiaiige of said upper bearing member and engaging the outer ends of said rollers.
5. The combination with upper and lower bearing members, the former having a depending sleeve-like hub and a depending thrust Harige, and the latter having an upwardly extended sleeve-like hub tclescoped into the hub of said upper member, of individually formed annular wearing plates loosely applied to said bearing members, radially disposed conical rollers interposed between said wearing plates, a. retaining ring intel-locked to the huh oi said upper bearing member and immediately underlapping the inner edge of the lower wearing plate, and thereby interlocking the said wearing plates and rollers to the upper bearing member, an expansible thrust ring spring seated against the thrust liange of said upper bearing member and engaging the outer ends of said rollers, the said thrust ring being caged between the outer portions of said wearing plates.
