Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES P. LAWSON, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of Broct on, in the county of .Chautauqua and State of New York, have on its outer surface, so that the said coatingwill act as a reflector and coact with the internally positioned reflector, so that the efliciency of the lamp may be increased and the illuminating effect thereof augmented.
A stilL further object of the invention is to provide a novel lamp, the configuration of which increases the effective reflecting surface as compared with lamps now in ordinary use without materially increasing the cost of production.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
In describing the invention in detail, reference' will be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification wherein like characters denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in which Figure 1 illustrates a view in elevation, the same being broken away to show the interior construction of the internal reflector; and Fig. 2 illustrates a sectional view through the film support.

As shown in the drawing, the flange is produced by the formation of a series of compound curves and that portion designated by the numeral 4 has its under surface preferably concaved and the general contour of the said flange is slightly depend ing. The external surface of the body is coated with reflecting material 5, such as quick-silver, the said coating extending from the head and terminating at the lower edge of the flange so that the upper portion of the lamp constitutes a reflector, and by reason of the provision of the flange the area covered by the reflector is relatively greater than by the use of lamps of ordinary construction.
The filament support 6 within the lam constitutes a reflector and consists of a sha t or column extending downwardly from the head, the said column being hollow and the external surface thereof being flared from the head for a portion of its length, the said external surface being then tapered to the lower end and terminating in apoint by reason of which shadows are obviated.
The external surface of the filament support 6. has longitudinally disposed ribs or corrugations 7 acting as prisms for diffusing light and the internal surface of the filament support has a coating 9 of quick-silver or other material having qualities of reflection so that the same will reflect the light and coact with the reflector of the body.
The film 8 may be of any appropriate type and is shown as secured to the filament support in known manner.
It will be observed that the post having reflecting means herein described may be used in lamps other than those described herein.
