NrrED STATES GEORGE H. AYLWORTH, OF BRIGHTON, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT lN PRESSING AND BALING HAV.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. l 12,766, dated March 2l, 1871.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE H. AYLWOETH, of Brighton, in the county of Macoupin and State otIllinois, have invented certain newand useful Improvements for Pressing and Baliug Hay; and I do hereby decla-re that the following is a i'ull, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specitication, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, likelettersindicatiu g like parts Whereever they occur'. A
To enable others skilled in the art to construct and use my invention, I will proceed to describe it, and the manner of its operation.
Figure l represents a side View.
I lirst construct a light Vertical frame or press-box, A, leaving openings or slots in two opposite sides, extending from one end nearly to the other. Within the press-box Iplace a pressure-bar, B, with the ends projecting through the side openings, to which are attached the ropes or other connections to the pressing; power. At the base ot' the press-box I place two eccentric grooved pulleys, C I), of an irregular oblong form, fastened together upon a revolving shat't. To the pulley O, I attach a rope leading to the pressure-bar B, and to the pulley D I attach a rope leading to one or more similar pulleys, E. I then attach the eonnectingropes c d so that when the pulleys commence to revolve the ropes will wind over the long end of the eccentric.' By this means a high rate of' speed is obtained, and at the end of the revolution the ropes wind over the short end of the eccent-rics, thus producing power. 4
In operating my press, I first place the pressure-bar at the top of the press put a small quantity of hay in the press. l then make a revolution ofthe pulleys, which draws the.
pressure-bar nearly to the bottom of the press, making a complete and .finished pressing of the hay which has been operated upon. lhefollower and pulleys are then brought back to their tirst position, and the filling and pressing repeated as often as may be required to press a bale otA any desired size. By thi-s means I ani enabled to press veryrapidly, making a small compact-bale.
The press is light, portable, simple, and convenient in its operation.
Having this fully described my invention, I claim- The arrangement. in the press, herein described, of the vertical frame A, pressurebar B, cords c (l, and eccentric pulleys C, D, and E, when all these parts are constructed and operated as shown and described, for the purpose set forth.
GEORGE H. AYLWORTH. Witnesses:
