Description

- #was f Etaient dido.
l VeEo'RGE VINCENT, or sTooKToN, CALIFORNIA,
of Stockton, county of SanJoaquin, State of Califor- `nia,` have invented anewand useful Machine for `Blocking Ribbons, Laces, or other goodsv that are usually blocked, of which lthe following is a specification. y
Description of Accompany/mg Drawing. Figure 1 is a side view ofthe machine. Figure 2 is an end view of the same. `Figure `3'is a top viewof` `the same.
igurelfgjs aface v iew of, lhedisks O and D. ignre 5 ls aside view oftlyiechuck or center, to he lused when theigoods arewider than thelengt-h oi' thc `blockor board upon which tlleyareto'lle blocked.`
` ,Figure (i is a to'p view of Iig. 5.
i General Deschiptz'on. A. and Bare standards, with suitable bearings to e the axleslof the disks Gand DY ects below the bed-piece, and'ha-s an arm turning under thesame, and `is provided wit-l1 a thumb-screw or other suitable device for the purpose of securing the machine to a counter-table or'bench.
` Attached tothe standard `A` is the guide-F, the opposite end of which is secured to the bed-pieceat G.
The standardil slides loosely upon the guide, and is kept inits upright positiohby the contact of its The standards Aand B are connected by a con traoting, spiral, ora rubber spring, L, or au expandingspringof any suitable ma. erialmay be used he-` Vtween' the` standard Band f he' lug Gfor the saine purpose.
' The disks O and I) are `I ade with one or `.more grooves, H H, across their faxes, to receive a card or `board, such as are used for lares and other goods, and
ooks or rollers, such as are us d for ribbons. i f Eau I in suitable bearings on the standards A and B, and the` axle ot' C having the. oraal;` J attached to it.
` The ,disks are provided with `weights O O, for the Beitknown that I,` GEGE VINCENT, of the city i of thedisksz() and Dihas an axle supported i Letters Patent No. 112,656, dated March 14, 1871.
purpose of bringing the grooves H H in proper posi tion for the reception of the card or board to be used.
The operationof the machine is as follows:
Forhlocking ribbons the standard B is drawnrback `and the block to be used is placed between the disks C- and D, when the contraction of the spring L will force the points l I into the block sutioieutly to hold it iu position while being turned by the crank J to wind the ribbon, the edges ofthe ribbon at the saine tinie being guided by the faces of the disks.
For blocking,l laces orsimilar goods. the weights O O, by their gravitybring the grooves H H parallel to each other, so that when the standard B is drawn back to admit the card or board it can be placed in both grooves at once, thus keepingit central with the axes of the disks.
For blocking goods that are wider than the lengthv I of the block or board upon which they are to be blocked, thevdisk Dl is reinoved from its hearing by removing thc screw or pinM, (which secures the axle endwise by fitting into a groove) and replaced by the chuck or center N, which is small enough to allow the goods to wind around it.
When it is desirable to unwind goods rapidly the crank J can be removed by taking out the screw or pin l. i
` The object of my invention is to make a portable blocker, easily adjusted to different lengths or widths ol' blocks or boards upon which goods are blocked7 and which can be readily attached to any counter, table, or bench, and especially adapted to the use ol" retail dealers in dry-goods.
. Claim; I What l claina as my invention, and wish to secure by Letters Patent, si he disks C andD with the grooves H H and the points I I I I, in cominination with thc standards A B, substantially as and for the purposes hereinbefore Set forth.
GEORGE VINCENT. Witnesses:
