Description

D, KTAYM.,
SACK.
APPLICATION FILED AUG. 5, 1914-.
TADAHIRA. D. KATAYAMA, OF SEATTLE, WASHINGTON.
sack.
Lizin-io.
Application filed August 5, 1914. Serial No. 855,306..
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, TADAHIRA D. KATA- YAMA, a subject of the'Emperor ot' Japan, residing at Seattle, in the'county of King and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sacks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which i-t appertains to make and use the same My invention relates to a. form of sack and construction thereof, to be used in ordinary grocery and market shops, and elsewhere, when it is desirable to keep a num-4 ber offolded sacks the top or front one of which may be quickly opened foruse without. the insertion therein of the hands or other unsanitary means, and the said opening to be accomplished by the simple movements required to bring the sack into proper position to be filled.
Figure l is a front view of the sack folded, mouth down. Fig. 2, is side view of the sack folded and suspended, mouth down. Fig. 3, is a front view of the sack opened; mouth down. Fig. 4 is a side view of th sack opened, bottom down. z
Referring to the drawings, A, represents 80 a point near the mouth of sack about where the operator would grasp the sack to open it; a, and b, represent the folded edges of the sides of the sack.
C, represents the inside mouth of sack as it is opened; D, represents the entire bottom portion of the sack.
D represents a fiap attachedto the bottom either as a separate piece connected thereto or as an extension of one side por- 40 tion of the sack. The lower ends or portion of the sack are'y folded down or inward and pasted, the portions folded into quarters or sections shown by e, f, p, and g. Near the outer end ofliap D is a hole o, at a point beyond the outer line of the sack when fold- ,ed, and ci represents a perforated line across the base of tiap D at or near the point of its attachment to the bottom D.
E, represents the main body of thevsack, mmrepresents a circle or the common trademark sign, placed at the point A, where the hands or fingers grasp sack; n, represents a nail or means for holding'the sack passing through the hole o of flap D,'and w, is a Wall or bracket for supporting the sacks.
Specification of Letters Patent.
vPatented Jari. 5, l,
To secure the quick and easy opening of the sack as described below, the flap D', is attached to the bottom D at a point not exactly at the transverse center of the latter, but rather between said center and the 'upper fold line between the bottom and what would be the rear side as the sack hangs on the nail. The hole o is purposely made in the flap D at such point that, when the flap lies against the folded lbottom as shown in Fig. 1,'the hole will b e beyond the contour of the bagbottom; and this permits the nail n to pass through the hole without wrinkling the bag or disarranging the rectangular outline of its folded bottom. The result of this construction is that, when vthe lsack is drawn downward, the nail by preventing downward movement of thel flap, tends to cause the upper and inner side of the bottom to move downward against the wall or the adjoining sack. y
In. use the operator suspends any desired number of sacks upon a nail or hook, and as down thesack till the bottom portionl of the sack (the bottom being upward) is at-right angles to the wall of next sack, then by a quick jerk the sack ,is removed from the naileither by the tearing off of the iap at d, or by thenail tearing out the flap beyond 0. As the mouth of the sack is then drawn in they may be required'for separate use, 'hev grasps the first sack at A, and gently draws circular motion to reverse the position of the sack, the body is fully iniated, and ready for filling with merchandise, etc. The sacks being suspended with mouths downward', prevents any dirt accumulating in the sacks, and as they are opened by the motion bringing them into position for use, there will be nd necessityv for the merchant to.use his hand, as is customary, to open the sack before filling.
Having fully described my invention,
'what I claim as my invention 1s,
s 1.y The herein described vsack having a bottom of rectangulaa` outline and a suspending Hap secured to said bottom on a line nearer one side of the sack than the other,
u the flap vbeing of a length to project beyond '1f and and@ zmnsverse line of perforacons naar :eis pcmi; of atachment. for the purpose n lgestimony whereof ax my signature of a, length 'to project beyon the in presence of two Witnesses.
