Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Dd- 29, 1914.
Application filed July '31 1914. Serial No. 854,234.
To all whom itmdy concern Be it known that I, WALTER R. KAHNS, a I
. citizen ofthe United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented-an Improvement-in Combined Shade-Hangers and LampSocket Supports for Lighting-Fixtures, of which the fcllo-w in is a specification.
My invention relates to a hanger orfhook for suspending the shade, globe or 'bowls of lightingjfi xtures combined with a. support for. the sockets of incandescent electric lamps, particularly to that class of lighting fixtures for producing semi-indirect lighting effects, in which a-transparent or translucent bowl is suspended, and the lead wires are brought .to one or more lamp sockets within the bowl. In fixtures of this characte'r it is customary to employ hangers or hooks attached to the bowl, and to employ separate supportingarms or brackets for the lamp socket The object of my present invention is to provide a device in which the hook tor sus pending the bowl and the supporting arm for the lamp s'ocket are made integral, thus dispensing with several parts heretofore necessary and at the same time facilitating the attachmentfof the hook and socket support to the bowl.
, The-details of the invention are hereinafter particularly described. a In the accompanying drawing:-Figure 1 isan elevationpartially in section, illustrating my invention attached to abowl. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same detached from the bowl. Fig. 3 is a plan View illustrating a blankfrom which thedevice may be formed. Fig. 4 is an elevation par- 4.0
- parts Hand 12 there is a somewhat widened portion which is provided. with'an openinggl? n eneath the rim of the bowl 10 there is an opening 14 into which a headed bolt 15 This bolt has a reduced screw-threaded end projecting within the bowl and through the opening 13 in the combined upon the screw-threaded end of the bolt hanger and support, and a nut 16 screwed,-
over the combined hanger and supportsecures the parts together. The end of, the socket supporting arm 12 is provided with acircular opening 17. I .18 indicates a. hollow stud "exteriorly screw-threaded on its lowerpart; This stud 18 is secured at its upper part within the opening 17 on the end of the arm 12.
19 indicates a lamp socket screwed upon thescrew-threaded lower end of the stud.18,-
and 20. designates an incandescent electric lamp attached to said socket.
21 indicate the conductor wires which pass through the hollow stud and are looped through the links of the supporting chain 22.
My improved 'device'is made of a single piece of brass or other metal stamped out as shown in Fig. 3. and sufliciently pliable to be bent into the shape shown in the draw-; ings; orjto suchrelative positions of the 1 combined parts. as may be desired.
By the employment of my invention the hanging of the bowls and supporting the lamp sockets is greatly facilitated. the cost lessened, and several parts heretofore necessary are entirely dispensed-with.
I claim as my invention:
1 A device for supporting an electric lamp socket and hanglng a bowl in lighting fixtures, consisting of a horizontally extending metallic strip provided on one end with a screw threaded studv to receive a lamp socket and having at the other end an integral vertically extending portion, the upper end of which is bent back forming a hook to engage a chain. and means for at taching said device to a bowl.
2. In a lighting fixture, the combination of a bowl provided with a hole beneath its rim, a device for hanging said bowl and supalainp sockeficonsistifig of a h'orizont'ally c'zxwcendi ng metallic strip provided h is bent brick forming a hook, there be- ,mg giiiiopening in said vertical poz'tioil -of the stz lp and means passing .through sa d openihg 5nd through the hole in 'said bow1 forfattachi'n g 'said deviceto the bowl. 10 v sia' edib Emm d 1?Ya f?I o I HWit ne sses: I *JA 'B Ri I -ELLA GRAEF.
