GRAND PLAYER PIANO.
APPLICATION FILED NOV. 1, 1912.
1 ,1 21,774. Patented Dec. 22, 1914.
2 SHEETS-SHEET 2 //flm QWWW y when the pedals are swung or folded up into inoperative position within the pedal frame,
the cover boardR covers up the. openings.
A shaft 37 is secured in blocks within the pedal frame and the operating link work extending from the pumping pedals is pivoted OIf' 'tliiS shafts The operating link work for each pedal is constructed .as ,follows:A
forwardly extending arm 38 is" pivoted on i suit b e on e t a to one .1 e op Pu P$-.=.-.-., r Whenthe pumpingpedals are in operaix ppsition, assh v Fig and ch set of arms 38 ;and 4OwvilLIform in effect a compound folding rock aigm. whereby the movement. of the pedals will be transmitted torthe .links42Q When the pedals'are swung upinto the pedal frame the rock arms 38 of thet'wo pedals turnaround on the shaft 37 -:and the inner ends of the same will move aw ay,. fr om the lugs fil on the bifurcated arms-40,; Thus the. pedals ca.n be folded up into f the, pedal frame without disturbing their "operative connection to the pumps.
' An arm 43is, fastened to the side of the board. Rand thesame is connected by a link 4.4m the pivot connecting. :the right- hand arm 31 and 32. By this arrangement, when the-handle 36 is manipulated to lower the frame 13, and the tracker and sheet supporting mechanism, the arm 43 will rotate in 'the direction indicated in the dotted line .Fig. l and this will swing up the cover board R to the vertical position shown in Fig.2 and will thus swing or fold the pumping pedals up into the pedal frame or casing. Again. when the handle is manipulated to lift the framel3and the tracker and sheet supporting. mechanism to operative position, the cover board R will be swung outwardly and the pumping pedals will be brought out to operative position. Thus a manipulation of the handle in one direction brings the trackerand sheet supporting mechanism and pumping pedals to operative position, and a manipulation in the other direction lowers the tracker and the sheet supporting mechanism into inoperative position and at the same time folds the pumping pedals up into the pedal frame. It also will be noticed that the weight of the cover board R and the pumping pedals is arranged to act to counter-balance the weight of the frame 13 and the parts carried thereby, whereby the manipulations previously described can be easily performed.
A supporting mechanism mounted for vertical The details and arrangements herein shown and described maybe greatly varied by a skilled mechanic, Without departing from the scope of my invention as expressed in the claims.
- Having thus fully described my invention, what I desire to secure by Letters-Rat entis:-
1. Agrand playerpiano having, in combination, a pianocasing, a tracker and sheet movement into and above.said casing, mea ns for "vertically moving said .mechanisinTinto operative and inoperative position," pump ing pedals, a folding support for said pedals, and parts connected to said mea 3' ..;sa 1ii support by which pedals ar mqv'ea-at6 operative position when the tracker j'f'and sheet supporting ,mechanism is vertically raised above' the casing'an'd b'y'which'f'th'e pedals are moved into inoperative position when the tracker and sheet supporting'mech anism is lowered to" inoperative p sition within the casing. h h
2. A grandplayer piano having, in *cbin; bination, a piano'casing, apedal frame, atracker and sheet supporting mechanism vertically movable'into position withinor above said casing, a handle, and means lop: erable thereby .for raisingand loweringth'e tracker and sheet supporting mechanism into operative or inoperative position, pumping pedals, a folding support f o r said pedals, and parts connected tosaidj means' and said folding support by' which the pedals are moved into operative position when the tracker and sheet supporting mechanism is raised above the casing to o p erative position and by which the pedals are folded into the pedal frame when the tracker and sheet supporting mechanismis'lowe red to inoperative position within the casing? 3. In a grand player piano, the combination of the piano casing, a tracker and sheet supporting mechanism, a pedal frame, pumping pedals, a folding support therefor and means for moving said mechanism and pedals into operative and inoperative positions, comprising a shaft. arms secured thereto, links extending therefrom to the tracker and sheet supporting mechanism, a link extending therefrom to the pumping pedals, a longitudinally extending. shaft, miter gears connecting said shafts, and an operating handle on said longitudinally extending shaft. r
4. In a grand player piano, the combination of the piano casing, a tracker and sheet supporting mechanism, a pedal frame, a cover board pivoted thereto, pumping pedals pivoted to the board, compound operating links extending to the pumping pedals, and means for moving said mechanism and ioo comprising a shaft having arms, links extending therefrom to the tracker and sheet In testimony whereof I have hereunto set supporting mechanism, and a link extending my hand, in the presence of two subscribing therefrom to the cover board, and means for Witnesses.
rotating said shaft, the weight of the cover SIDNEY J. STAPLES. 5 board and pedals being efl'ective to substan- Witnesses:
tially counter-balance the weight of the WM. J. KEELEY,
