may be of heavier material. so desired, A. rod, as 3i, extentm lengthwise of the carriage and is joarnaled in the ends of the carriage frame la and said rod has a finger or handle portion 35 by which it may be rocked in the frameu This rod is ont away to form cams or cam parte, as at 36, and normally resting in these cam parts 36 the outer ends of the arms 32. The normal position of the rod 34 is that shown in the drawings and whenrocked in its bearings, the cam parts 36 will raise the arms 32 this will throw the forward portion with the feed roll 25, away vfrom the platen and will hold the same in this position until the arms 32 again rest upon the cnt away parts 36, there being one or more springs, as 87, arranged in recessed ends of adjustable screws SZflocated in the carriage plate or hase l2, which springs havel their upper ends engaging the under surface of the work table and tending normally to force the feed roll into engagement with the platen.
While l show special line-spacing mechanism for rotating the platen and means whereloyV the detent for the line-spacing ratchet may be released, such features form no part of the present invention, the linespacing mechanism being substantially the same as that disclosed in the application to Marshmann W. llamen, Sr. No. 499,874, filed dune 3, 1909.
From the foregoing, it will be seen that a simple and efcient work table for a carriage is provided; that said work table may be made of a single piece of sheet metal; that simple means is provided whereby the work table may be held in such a way that it may be moved from or toward the platen; that -y simple means is provided for mounting the feed roll on the work table; and that simple means is provided for moving the work table and feed roll away from the platen6 Having thus described my invention, l
