From the foregoing, it will be seen that a simple and efcient work table for a carriage is provided; that said work table may be made of a single piece of sheet metal; that simple means is provided whereby the work table may be held in such a way that it may be moved from or toward the platen; that -y simple means is provided for mounting the feed roll on the work table; and that simple means is provided for moving the work table and feed roll away from the platen6 Having thus described my invention, l

claim as new and desire to secure loy Letters Patentz- Y ln a typewriter, the combination of a carriage having a base plate, a platen mounted in the carriage,l a work table made of a single piece of metal, a feed roll mounted on said work table, integral arms projecting rearward from the work table below the main body thereof and supported directly on the base plate, means for holdingI the arms to the base plate to adapt the same to rock thereon, springs interposed between the base plate and the table and normally forc- .ing the forward portion of the table with the feed roll Ltoward the platen, and means engaging the arms at the rear portion thereof to move the work table and force the feed roll away from the platen. In a typewriter, the 'combination of a carriage having a base plate, a platen mountearrage having a baseplate, a platen mount-` ed in vthe carriage, a wort: table, a feed roil mounted on said 'work table, arms proxiecting rearward from 'the work table below the main body thereof and supported directly on the base plate, means for holding the arms to the base plate to adapt the to roclr thereon., screws located, the base plate, springs seated in the screws and normally forcingthe forward portion of work talole with the feed roll toward the platen, and a rod having cam portions engaging the arms at the rear portion thereof to move the work table and force' thefeed roll away from the platen.
