To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WALTER H. ZACHRY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Atlanta, in the county of Fulton and State of Georgia, have made certain new and useful Improvements in Mops, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to mops, and one of the principal objects thereof is to provide an improved reversible mop head and one which is adjustable with relation to the handle.

Another object is to provide improved means for detachably securing yarn or other mop material to the mop head.

A further object is to improve and simplify the construction of the mop head.

With these and other objects in view, which will become apparent as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which like characters of reference indicate like parts throughout the figures, of which Figure 1 represents a central radial sectional view taken through the mop head, Fig. 2 represents a vertical sectional view taken at right angles to Fig. 1, and on the line 2-2 thereof. Fig. 3 represents an enlarged perspective view of a portion of the mop head showing the arrangement of the clamping strips. Figi represents a perspective view of one of the locking clips.

Fig. 5 represents a view similar to Fig. 1, of a modified form of mop head. Fig. 6 represents a vertical sectional view on the line 66 of Fig. 5, and Fig. 7 represents a detailed sectional view of one end of the mop proper, showing the manner of attaching it to the mop head.

Referring more particularly to the drawing, the mop head, shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, comprises a .pair of, flat substantially semicircular blocks 5, having their inner edges similarly recessed from the periphery to beyond the center of the blocks to form a central radial slot 6, and the blocks are secured together by means of a bolt 7, extending centrally through the blocks at right angles to slot 6 and threaded at both ends to receive nuts 8 for tightening the blocks together, whereby the mop head will remain inany adjusted position circumferentially of the bolt. The edges of the blocks are rimmed out where the ends of bolt 7 extend through to receive the nuts, and a locking plate 9, provided with teeth 9, is slipped over each end of the bolt and the teeth sunk into the wood on each side of the adjacent nut to keep said nut in position.

Formed centrally on bolt 7 and extending at right angles thereto and within slot 6 is a squared shank or stem 10, which extends beyond the periphery of the mop head and into a squared bore in the lower end of a handle 11,. said lower end being provided with a ferrule 12 in which is threaded a thumb screw 13, said screw also extending through a nut 2 seated in a squared recess 3 in the handle and being adapted to be tightened against shank 10 for adjusting the same longitudinally of the handle. A plurality of corrugated plates 14 are driven or sunk into the opposite faces of blocks 5 for aiding bolt 7 in securing said blocks to gether.

The mop itself comprises an inner and an outer strip 15 and 16 respectively, formed of canvas or other suitable material, said strips having their edges turned under toward each other as at 17, and having their ends similarly bent under, as at 18, and securing strands of yarn or other suitable material 19 between them for forming the mop, said strips of canvas and strands of yarn being thoroughly stitched together. The strips of canvas are of substantially a length equal to the perimeter of the mop head, and are adapted to be secured thereto, together with a strip of rubber composition or other suitable material 20, said strip being wider than the canvas strips and positioned between them and the mop head.

In order to secure the mop and composition strip to the block, and also to brace and strengthen the latter, there has been provided a plurality of bolts 21 extending radially through the block and formed at their inner ends with flattened eye portions 22 through which bolt 7 extends, said eye portions lying in recesses counter sunk in the opposite walls of slot 6 near the inner end thereof, and the outer ends of the bolts extend beyond the periphery of the block and through the canvas and composition strips tosecure vthe same in place, by means of washers 23 and nuts 2% provided on the outer ends of the bolts. The composition strip is also provided with similar eyes 34.

The strips may if desired be provided at spaced intervals throughout the lengths with eyes, through which the bolts extend for securing the strips on to the ring. The bolt 7 in the modified form extends through the ring and also through the strips, and if found desirable, the bolt may be extended .through the strips when used with the wooden blocks for securing the strips thereto.

' It will be understood that if so desired, the form of mop used with the wooden block, that is, the one wherein the strips are i turned under both at their edges and at their ends, may be used with the ring, and that the mop may be provided with the eyes or not, as deemed best.

- Although the mop head is shown as being circular, it will be understood that a triangular, square, or other formation may be used withoutdepartingfrom the spirit of the invention.

Although I have described the preferred embodiment of my invention, 1 may desire to make such changes in its construction, combination and arrangement of parts as do not depart from the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims.
