To all 'whom 'it may concern Be it known that I, HARRY VissumNG, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lubricators, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention relates to lubricator devices in general, and more particularly to oil cups which are employed to furnish an intermittent feed of-oil to metallic bearing surfaces.
It has specialv reference to the provision of an improved type of cup of the character referred to by means ofjvhich oil is fed`to the bearing only while the machine is in operation and in `which such flow ceases upon stoppage of the machine. Devices so characterized are especially useful in connection With intermittently operated machinery, suchv as locomotive engines, automobiles, pumps, compressors and other machines in whichv guides, rocker boxes, stuffing boxes and non stationary bearings not only require continuous lubrication while moving but are otherwise not conveniently to be oiled by hand. Lubricating devices actuated by gravity alone are not satisfac tory in such situations, since, when the machinery is inoperative the lubricators must also be made', inoperative by closing a valve .and if such shutting-off be neglected even occasionallyor for a short time waste of oil is incurred.
The principal objects of my invention are the provision of an efficient and inexpensive device of the kind above specified, one which is to be cheaply manufactured, of low cost of maintenance, unlikely to become out ofV order or in need of repair and one which is uniform and certain in its operation; the provision of such a device having improved adjusting means whereby the oil feed mayy be regulated or controlled with much precision` and nicety and adjustment made without the use of tools; the provision of improved means whereby the device may be quickly and conveniently opened for replenishingor for direct feed to the bearing Whee required, without disturbance of the normal feed or the adjustment thereof; the

In the attainment of the objects above stated, as well as certain -addi'tional advantages which will be apparent to those who are skilled in the art to which my invention pertains, I have provided the constructions illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein-- Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of a device embodying my invention; Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line lI-*II of Fig. 1; Figs. 3, 4 and 5 are vertical sectional views of further devices embodying my invention; Fig. 6 is an elevational view of the device of Fig. 5 taken at a `right angle thereto, and Fig. 7 is an uridei plan view taken on the line VIII-VIII of Fi l Ftefeiring now more particularly to Figs. 1 and 2 it will be noted that in carrying out my invention, I make use of a hollow body or shell 10, preferably of cast metal, here shown as" provided with a shank 1()a by means of which itmay be inserted in place. For a threefold purpose, viz.: to afford a seat for, and means for maintaining in place, the gravity actuated shut off device 11 and to provide means for a direct feed of oil I form in the floor of the shell an upstanding flange 11 by which the inverted cup or bell shaped member 12, havinga stem 13 with a passage 13 is supported.
