HowAn'rr-r, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rothschild, in the county1 of Marathon and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain .new and useful Improvements in Cores for Pa )er-Rolls; and I do hereby declare the foliowing tobe a full, clear, and exact de scription of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it ap pertains to make end use the same.
My invention relates to cores for use in paper rolls, especially in connection with those paper rolls which are used in the production of newspapers, or rolls of wrapping paper, o r the like, where it desired to posltively drive the core from any suitable Sourcecf power while the material is being wound thereon.
lt is my intention to provide a light, cheap and etlicient coremade of rolled paper, pasteboard, or the like, and which can be nianufactured in any convenient lengths, and then cut into shorter lengths and i'itted to suit the various axial lengths of the paper rolls for which such cores are intended; or a series of these cores may be used to form a composite core, all mounted on the saine spindle. l
My invention will be understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which the same parts are indicated by similar reference symbols throughout the several views.

Having thus described my invention what l claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent ol" the United States is l. The combination with a core compris ing a. hollow shell composed of a series ot strips ot' heavy paper spirally wound in, reverse itlireetion and axially indented at each end. with a rein forcing metal sleeve snugly fitting in the end olE said core and axially indented to register with the indentations in said paper core, and having curved Hanges engaging the sides ol said axial indentations in said core and holding said sleeve in place, and protecting said core from wear, of a spindle passing through said hollow shell, and collars secured on said spindle, and having lugs projecting into said indentations in said core, and said sleeve, sub stantially as described.
