RESILIENT Specification ofltetters Patent.

Application filed .Tune 1, 1914. Serial No. 842,230.
To all whom t may concern:
Beit known that we, Eines L. HENINGER, HENRY J. SOHRADER, and WILLIAM L. Non- Ris, citizens of the United States, residing at Kokomo, in the county of Howard and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Resilient Wheel; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a new and use-` ful resilient wheel.
An object of the invention is the provision of an improved device of this nature, in which simple, eflicient and practical dctails of construction are involved.
In practical fields the details of construction may necessitate alternations, falling within the scope of what is claimed.
The invention comprises further features and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed.
In the drawings z-Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improved wheel constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2
1s a transverse sectional view on line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on line 3*3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4. is a detail sectional view on line 4:-41 of Figy. Fig. is a detail view of one of the springs and its connecting link to the hub constructon.
Referring more especially to the drawings, 1 designates a central plate having an enlarged central opening 2, whereas 3 and 4 designates the outer rims of the wheel. These outer rims are grooved as shown at 5 to receive a solid rubber tire 6. The adjacent edges of the rims 3 and 4l are provided with grooves angular in cross section designated by the numeral 7 to receive the central plate 1. Projecting inwardly from the rims 3 and 4; are lugs 8, through which the screw bolts 9 extend and also through the central plate 1, for securing the outer plates 10 in place. The outer plates are provided` with central openings 11 substantiallyof a diameter equal to the diameter of the opening2 `of the central plate. A hub member springs are extended substantially 12 is provided on which a pair of integral annular collars 13 are arranged, through which adjacent their peripheries pins 14 extend. The pins 14 constitute means for anchoringthe linksr 15 between said plates 13. 55 The central plate 1 is provided with radial slots 17, which receive the socket plates 1S, which are provided with oppositely arranged grooves to receive the edge portions of the slots. The socket plates have sockets 19 to 60 receive the end portions 20 of the coil springs. The other end portions of the adjacent to the circumference of the rims 2 and 3, as shown at 21 and terminate in right angle 65 portions 22 having hooks 23 which engage the links 15 as shown. By the provision of the said springs and the links, it will be seen that the hub construction is allowed to yield in various directions incident to the jar and movement of the vehicle body upon the axles the spindles of which are designed to fit the bore of the hub member 12.` Arranged on the hub member 12 are disk plates 25, which closely engage the outer faces of the plates 10, thereby not only preventing rattling of the parts, but also rendering `the interior of the structure dustproof. Screw bolts 26 pass through the plates 25 and the rings 13, thereby holding the parts in place. In holding the plates 25 in place in this manner, the transverse pins 11- are prevented from moving endwise.
The invention having been set forth, what is claimed as new and useful is A resilient wheel comprising a pair of annular ring disk plates arranged opposite each other,.an intermediate ring disk plate, a pair of annular rims, the adjacent edges of which are provided with angular grooves to receive the periphery of the intermediate plate, radial lugs on the inner circumference of said rims, means passing through said plates and through said lugs to hold the parts together, a hub member having plates upon its opposite ends engaging the outer faces of the first plates, the intermediate plate having radial slots, socket members arranged in the slots, coil springs` on each side of the intermediate plate having ends secured .in the sockets of said socket plates names to this specification in the presence of and having their other ends terminating in two subscribing witnesses.

means for securing the outer plates of the Vitnesses: hub member and the ring plates together. PETER GAIN,
ln testimony whereof we have signed our WARREN RUSH.
