ATTORNEYS due to the unequal expansion and contraction-of the'strips thereof and to the movement of the block 22 about the pivot 24. If desired the section 20 may be composed of an arm or strip having no thermostatic qualities, and merely serving to magnify and transmit the movement of the'section 19.
The amplified motion of the free ,end of the section 20 is, in the illustrated embodiment of my invention, shown as transmitted to the detent 8 by means carried by the section 20 and movable therewith and coacting directly with the detent. Said means is here shown as a spring tongue 27 fixed to the free end of the section 20 and having means for entering a slot 28 In the detent 8, the spring arm being provided with an adjusting means as a set screw 29 threading through a nut'30 associated with said tongue 27 the screw 29 bearing against the section 20 either directly or through the base of said tongue 27.
The means extending into the slot 28 is a member 31 preferably adjustable for varying the starting position of the detent 8 and thus rendering the control more or less sensitive as desired, said member 31 being here shown as pivotedat 32 to the'tongu'e 27 and having an inclined or cam portion I 33 -movable in the slot 28, the member 31 being adjustable about its pivot, for bringing different portions of the inclined or cam part thereof into the slot 28 and thus changing the position of the detent 8 a on its axis.
Movement of the member 31 in one direction on its axis causes the detent to move the surface 10 farther under the arm, 12
thus requiring a greater movement or contraction of the thermostat to move said surbination of a draft controller, means tending to actuate the controller, an escapement mechanism comprising a pivoted detent norface 10 out of engagement with the arm 12 and permit the damper to move from the position shown in Fig. 2 to that shown in Fig. 1. Such movement of the member 31 carrying the surface 10 farther under the arm 12, also movesthe surface 11 farther out of the path of such arm 12 so that a small expansion of the thermostat will disengage the surface 11 of the detent 8 and the arm 12 and permit the damper toclose.
Movement of the member'31 inthe opposite direction on' its piv'ot causesthe surface 11 to be shifted farther into the path of'the arm 12 and the surface.10 farther out of thelfpath of said'arm ,so that a slight contraction of the thermostat will causethe damper to be open and a greater expansion pivoted at its with said arm,

The thermostat may be Wholly disconnectedfrom the detent by shifting the member 31 a sufiicient distance to carry the cam portion 33 entirely out of engagement with the walls of the slot 28. I have also pro- -vided this invention with means by which the damper can be locked in its closed position, said means comprising a pivoted lever-34= here shown as mounted on the pivot 9 of the detent 8 and is movable on its pivot into. position so that the shoulder 35 thereon will underlie the arm 12 and hold the arm 12 from movement irrespective of any action of the thermostat.
My regulating device is particularly advantageous in that it can be easily applied, and can be applied to stoves and other heaters usediin connection with incubators.
What I claim is:
1. In a draft regulating device, thecombination' of a pipe, a damper in the pipe,
means tending to actuate the damper, an
escapement comprising a detent located on the outside of the pipe near the damper for normally preventing actuation thereof by said means, a thermostat mounted on the outside of the pipe and. supported by the pipe, and mechanical means carried by the thermostat and having a variable connection with the detent for transmitting the movement of the thermostat to the detent, gubstantially as and for the purpose set orth.
2. In a draft regulating device, thecom-j bination of a draft controller movable about an axis, means tending to actuate the controller about its axis, an arm movable about the axis and connected to the controller, a detent for coacting with the arm, the detent being in the form of, an angle lever angleand having means at its opposite ends for alternately coacting and a thermostat for controlling vthe operation .of the detent, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
-3. In a draft regulating device, the commally preventingmovement -if the regulator, a thermostat for actuating the detent,
and means carried by the thermostat'and coacting directly with the detent for transmitting the movement of the thermostat to the detent,'said means comprising a member adjustable for shifting the detent on its ivot thereby changingthe normal or start-. mg position of the detent, substantiallyas and for the purpose set forth.

In adraft regulating device, the com-. bination of a draft controller, means tend ing to actuate the draft controller, an escape- .ment for controllingthe operationthereof by said means, the escapement comprising a 'detent in the form of an angle lever pivoted and coacting directly with thedetent, the detent being provided with a, slot and said mister at its angle, the arms of the lever being provided with stop faces, one of which is in operative position when the other is out. of

In a draft regulating device, the combination of a draft controller, means tending to actuate the controller, an escapement for controlling the actuation of the controller by said means, the escapement COKE? prising a pivoted detent normally preventing movement 'ofpthe regulator, a thermostat, and means carriedby the thermostat and 'coacting directly with the detent for transmitting the movement of the thermostat tothe oletent, said means comprising a member shiftableintoand out of engagement with the detent for connecting and disconnecting the detent from the thermostat,substantially as and for the purpose specified.
'6. In a draft regulating device, the combination of a draft controler, means tending to actuate the draft controller, a thermostat for controlling the operation of the controller by said means, the thermostat comprising a section composed of strips of dih'erent metal, said strips being'liaed togetherand heldfrom relative movement at corresponding ends, and spaced and fixed at their other ends, and means at the latter ends for receiving, transmitting and magnifying the relative movement of said strips, substan tially as and for the purpose set forth.
