IMPROVEMENT'INI LOOM-PICKING artens;
the Schedule referred to in then mm Patent momma; en cfthc m,
We, HENRY A. WHITTEN and ELIJAH 1). Gone, both' oi- Holyoke, Hanipden county, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented certain Improvements in Picker-Motions for Looms, of which the following is a specification.
' Nature and Objects of the Invention,- Onrinveution relates to that class of picker-motion in which the movement of the picker-stick is derived from a rocker, to whichit is attached at one end, the
, rocker being provided with teeth to mesh with a ratchet, upon which it oscillates.
By giving an inclination to-the ratehetpiece when the pulling-strap releases the picker-stall its own 'weight rocks it back.
llhe rocker has flanges that project on each side over the ratchet-piece, and prevent its being thrown oil the ratchet-piece by the motion of the lathe, while the ratchet and teeth to theroeker prevent its having any longitudinal play, and being drawn out of place either by the pulling-strap in one direction or by the weight of the picker-stick in the other. v v
' Our invention consists in making the ratehet pieee adjustable by bolting one end to the flanges of a collar, so that it is hinged on one bolt, while, by means of a set serew playing in a slot, the ratchet-piece can "be lowered to" any degree and secured. The collar passes over a stud attaoheddirectly to the lathe, and is clamped by a screw.

General Descriptions .4
' A is the rocker, having the picker-stick B attached to. it at one side of the center, and having the flanges E E and teeth a a, &e.','which mesh with the teeth b 1:, See, on the ratchet-piece l); i
' L is the stud, attached tothe lathe, and upon which 1 is the belt which hinges the ratchet-piece to the collar; and v I O is the set-screw working in the'slot f, and for the purpose of regulating the inclination desired to be given to the ratchet-pieee 1). i
The rocker-is madeadjustable so that the degree of its inclination from the horizontal can be varied to cause the picker-staff to rock more or less fast to suit the requirements of the class of work upon the loom.
