To all lwhom it may concern Be it known that I, MEYER LIEBMAN, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Neyv Yorin in the county of Bronx and State of New York, have invented certain new .and useful` Improvements in Printing Devices, of which the followingis a specification.
My invention relates to printing devices and more particularly to a hand operated device for printing characters of any preferred design on tickets, cards, papers, and other articles.
lt is one of the objects of my invention tof pr'ovide a simple andy convenient device whereby the character or letter is inked after each movement of the same tothe printing position, and whereby the member carrying the character presents the character. to the inling means when the printing device is in its normal or open position.
Another object of the invention isV to provide a bodily movable inlting means arranged so that the same. will not he in the path of the member carrying the character, but may be automatically forced into contact therewith after the character carrying member is in inkingposition.
Another object of the invention is to provide a novel removable and renewable inking devicelfor the mechanism.
Still another object of the invention is to vcompletely inelose the inking pad and to retain the character and pad in a Vcasing while the device is not in use.

The. lower jaw 1G connected to the upper lever 10 carries a plate 18 which has anupwardly extending arm 19 projecting through the opening i2() at 'the rear end of the lower wall Q1 of the casing 22 constituting the upper jaw. The plate 18 is Securedto the, jaw 16 by means of screws Q3. The lower jaw 16 constitutes the support or platen for the sheet receiving the impression and also carries a guide plate 2l which is bifurcated at its outer end and secured to the lower jaw by means of the screw Q5. The bifurcated end 26 of the plate is bent upi'ardly as at 27 and the plate is spaced throughout most of its length from the said jaw to provide a space 28 to receive the card, ticket or other article to be printed.
The casing comprising the jaw carried by the lever ll has a cylindeior roller 29 carried by the pivot 30 at the forward end thereof and carries a letter or character 31 of any suitable design on its outer peripheral face. The face of the cylinder can of course he made wide enough for a complete word or some other character requiring a wide face. The cylinder 29 is pivoted so as to pro-ject from the casing 22 through the opening 32 at the forward end of the casing and when the cylinder is rotated to a printing position the character 31 also projects through said opening 32 and extends between the bifurcations at the end Q6 and is pressed onto the sheet S inserted inthe space 2Q between the jaw 16 and guide plate Q4.
l have provided a mechanism for rotating the cylinder one quarter of a revolution each time the levers 10 and 11 are closed and each time they are opened, when closing the levers the. cylinder 29 is rotated so as to print the cha racter on ay sheet inserted in the space 28 and when the levers 10 and 11 are released the, cylinder is rotated back a quarter of a revolution to its original and inking position where it is retained when the device is not in use. The mechanism for rotating the cylinder comprises a Y-shaped slot in the face of the cylinder, the shank portion 33 being radiaily arranged and near the center or pivot of the cylinder, and the two branches g, niiaeee Se and 35 extend outwardly from the portion 33 toward the periphery or" the cylinder. A lever 3G is pivoted at 3T in one side oi the casing '22 and at its outer end has a pin 25S whieh lits in the if-shaped slot and when the lever is oseillated the said pin iS moves in the if-shaped slot and serves to rotate the Cylinder 2) a quarter of a revolution. The branches B2i, l-.l and 35 are ent culwed about the pivot ST as a Center so that the pin 3S which moves about the center 37 will readily pass along' the said branches ot the Y-shaped slot.
