YORIL'MA CORPORATION 0F.NEW
SOFT FOLD-COLLAR.
Application filed November 18, 1912. Serial No. 731,084.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JULIA ROBINSON, a citizen of the United State's, residing at Troy, county of Rensselaer, and State of New York, have invented certain new andv useful Improvements in "Soft/F old-Collars, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to 'such improve-- ments, and consists. of the novel construction hereinafter described and subsequently claimed.
Reference may be had to the accompanying drawings, and the reference characters marked thereon which form a part of this specification. Similar characters refer to similar parts in the several figures therein.
Figure 1 of the drawings, is a view in perspective of a soft fold-collar embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view of one corner of the top-plies of the collar. with'm'y improved stiffening strip and said plies-secured together by a run seam. Fig. 3 is a cross-section of the same taken on the broken line 3-3 in Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a cross-section of the top of the fold-collar taken on the.
is the untidy and disordered appearance which the front ends of the collar-top present when disarranged by the knot of the necktie and the movements of the wearer. This is due largely to the fact that such collars are made of soft flexible fabrics which lack the stren th and stiffness which is necessary to retain said ends symmetrically disposed. In the endeavor to hold the ends of the top of such a collar symmetrically and smoothly disposed, various expedients have been adopted for the purpose of tying together the ends of the top or fastening the ends of the top to the neckband as by means of buttons and buttonholes, but it is impossible'by the use of such devices to hold the neighboring ends of the top in even approximate symmetry.
The principal object of the present inventhe collar are effect .tion-ds to impart-to 1 the'1neighboring end Patented Sept, 29,1914.-
edges; of the top-of a. softfold-collarsuch stiffness-as willenable them-to maintain in use substantially the desired symmetrical relationship. To this end} I incorporateiin the folded end-edges'of the.top,-folded reinthe plies of thetop in such a manner asto force 'strips inclosedand stitched between form along; each'enduadgeof the top a zone of 'much"greater'i thicknessntha'n at other I points in the top;- 1
Referring to ther-drawings zwherein the invention is shown in preferred form, 1 represents the bandand 2 the folded-0ver top .of asoft fold-collar, .The neighboring ends of the-top are reinforced and stiffened by zones of increased thickness between the dotted lines 33 and the respective endedges of the top. The top is shown formed of three plies, 4, 5, and 6, which in making out by a run seam, 7. A longitudinally folded reinforce or stiffening strip, 8,- is superimposed upon the plies alon their end-edge and secured to the plies y said run seam, 7, the relative positions being shown in Figs. 2 and 3. After the running operation, the top is turned right side out by hand, thus locating the reinforce strip, 8, between the plies as shown in Fig. 4,'increasing by four thiclmesses of the strip, 8, the thiclmess of the extreme edge-portions stitched together wrong side of the ends of the top, and increasing by- A two thicknesses of the reinforce strip the thickness of the top inwardly to the point, 3. The plies of the'top and the reinforce strip, 8, after being turned right side out are stitched together along the lines, 9. The increased zones of thickness thus formed along the end-edges of the top render said edges to a large extent self-supporting to maintain a symmetrical disposition in use,
and this without detractlng from the soft of the collar upon the neck.
' The collar may be worn without the use of devices for tying together the ends of the top or devices for securing the ends of the top to the band, or it may be used with any of such devices for securing together either directly or indirectly the ends of the top, rendering such devices more effective for the intended purpose. v
In Fig. 5 I have shown my improved collar with the ends of its'top tied together by a link 10, having buttons, 11, inserted through the respective buttonholes, 12, in the ends of the collar-top. p
The reinforce strip ma be made of any suitable fabric which W11]. impart to the ends of the collar the necessary stiffness, heavy muslin or duck being suitable for the purpose.
What I claim as new and desire to secur by Letters Patent is- 1. A soft-fold-collar having a folded-over top formed of a plurality of plies inturned and secured together along their edges, and a reinforcing strip having an edge portion stitched to, and inturned between, the respective edge portions of the top along its ends and extending to a greater distance from the end of the top than do the inturned edges of thetop plies.
2. A soft fold-collar having a folded-over top formed of a plurality of plies inturnedand secured together along their edges, and
,a reinforcing strip'folded along its longitudinal middle and having its edge portions spective edge portions of stitched to, and inturned between, the rethe t3 along its ends, said strip having its fold edge portion extending further inward from the end of the top than do the inturned edges top plies, said folded edge and to plies being connected together by a line 0 stitching extending along the inner side of said inturned top ply edges.
3. A soft fold-collar having a folded-over top'formed of a lurality of plies inturned and secured toget er along their edges, and having a reinforcing strip stitched to, and inturned between, the respective edge-portions of the top along its ends, said top having means whereby its ends are adapted to be secured together.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand this 31st day .of October, 1912.
J ULIA ROBINSON.
