PRTABLE :Old ILLlINGr-STAND.
` seeiacation of Letters rama-t.
patented sept-.729, 1914.
e Application filed March 28, 1914. Serial No. 8235826.
To El whom fait mcg/,l concern lle it known that Ll'lliLL'niM Boorir, a citizen the United Stati-is,` residing` at Grayette, in the county of Benton and State ci d rllzansas, have invented certain new and useful lin iroyeinonts in Portable Drilling- Stands, ot which the following is a specilication, reference being had to the accompanying drawings. i
This invention relates to drills, andinore particularly to a drill which is supported in a portable stand.
An object of this invention is the provision of a drillingv stand of this character which comprises `arame upon which a supporting table is adjustably mounted, above which a feeder bar is piyotally mounted, the treadle beine adapted for engagement' with tl feeder bar, and a drill connected to they base of the traine to move the feeder bar downwardly to torcethe drill into the work supported upon the table. e l
'l further object oi' this inyention is the y sion of novel means for detachably supportn d3 a wheel or similar device which it is ,lesircd to drill, in the trame below the feeder bar. e
ll/lith these and other objects in View, my invention consists in the novel construction, combimition,` and arrangement ot partsto be hereinafter more Vlully described, claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing', in which,
Figure 1 is a iront elevation of my device; Fig. 2 is a side elevation'thereoii; Fig. Sis a sectional View on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1; and l is a sectional View on the line l1 l of 1.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a pair of spaced base bars in which standards 2 and 3 arevmounted, the standards being connected at their upper and lower ends by brace rods and 5, respectively. A bracket is adjustably connected to the standard 3 adjacent its lower end, the bracket comprising a horizontally disposed rod 6, which is connected to the standard by the lJ-shaped plate 7, and a U-shaped brace plate 8,`the intermediate portion of which is connected to the standard below the plate 7, and the opposite ends oi which are connected to the opposite side faces of the rod 6 adiacent its free end.y The standard 3 is formed with a plurality of bolt openings 9 in which the bolts 10 and 11 which engage the plate 7 and the `brace 8, respectively, are mounted,
whereby the bracket is vertically adjustable with relation to the frame. A work supporting table 12 is mounted on the free end of the bar 6 to support the work which it is desired toedrill.
` il Ushaped supporting' plate 13 is pivotallyconnected to the standard 3 above the platel and connected to the opposite ends of the plate 13 is one end of a feeder bar 14, the :opposite endet the bar 14 having a` pair at guide plates 15 connected on opposite sides thereof, the guide plates projecting beyond the free end of the lbar 14 for engagement with the opposite side'faces of lthe standard 2 to guide the bar in its vertical movement in the trame. A socketul isA formed in the lower face of `the bar .14 intermediate oiiits ends, and suitably mounted in the socket is the upper end of a brace 17, whichl is formed with aI crank 18 intermediate oi its ends, and mounted in the lower end of the brace is the bit `or drill 19 telg1 drilling,` the worlr` supported upon the ta e.
e To more the feeder bar 14 `yertically with` in the iframe, a treadle 2O is pivotallyi'connectedat one end to one of the base inembers 1, and a connecting rody 21 is connected at its lower end to the tree end of the treadle 2O and. at its upper end to the free end of the bar 14," so that upon pressure upon the treadle 20, the bar 13 is moved downwardly to torce' the drill 19 into engagement with the work supported upon the table 12. The lower brace rod 5 is preterably sectional, the rod consisting of a pair of tubular sections 22 which are mounted at one end in the standards 2 and 8, the inner ends of the tubular sections 22 being` spaced from each other lorthe reception of the opposite ends of an intermediate rod 23, the rod 23 being normally maintained in engagement with the opposing ends of the sections 22 by set screws `24 which are disposed through the opposing1 ends of the tubular sections and into engagement with the opposite ends of the intermediate section 23.
lt will belseen that when it is desired to drill a wheel or other similar device (not shown), the set screws 24 are loosened so t that the rod 23 may be moved to one side to allow the wheel to be placed between the e opposing ends oit the sections 22, whereupon the opposite ends of the rod 23 may again be secured in the opposing ends of the sections 22 so that the red forms a support for the Wheel.
In the practicalv use of my device, the Work to be drilled is placed upon the table f. 12, whereupon. the treadle bar is depressed Wheel or the like, the bracket may be removed from the standard 3 and the Wheel supported upon the rod 28 in the manner heretofore described, so that the rim of the Wheel is disposed in the path oi the drill 19 so that the same may be moved downwardly into engagement with the rim upon depression of the treadle 2O in the usual manner.
Having thus fully described my inven tion, Whatl desire 'to secure and claim by Letters Patent, is Q l. A device of the character described comprising` a frame including` a iair of spaced standards, a drill supporting bar pivotally connected at one end to one of said standards adjacent its upper end, a pair of guide plates connected to the opposite sides of said bar at its opposite end and projecti ing longitudinally therefrom, the projectring, portions of said plates being engaged against the opposite side faces of the other of said standards, a Work supporting member connected to one oi' said standards below said bar, a depending,` drill carried by said bar, and means for moving said bar downwardly to 'force the drill inte engagement With the Worlr upon the supporting member.
2. A device of the character described including a pair of spaced standards, a drill supporting bar pivotally connected at one end to one of saidv standards adjacent its upper end, a Work supporting member carried by said standards at their lower ends, said member comprising` a pair o inwardly extending tubular rods mounted at their outer ends in said standards, the inner ends of said rods terminating` in spaced relation f with each other, a central rod having,v its opposite ends mounted in the opposed ends of said tubular rods, means for detachably holding the opposite ends of said central rod Within the opposing ends of said tubular rods, a depending; drill carried by said supporting bar intermediate of its ends, and means for lowering' said supporting bar to engage the drill with the Work carried upon said supportingmember.
In testimony whereof l' hereunto aiiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses. VVILLAM R. BOOTH. Vllitnesses WALTER J. JOHNSTON, Gnonsn Harwoon.
