The rearward end of the carrier and more precisely the members 2 thereof, are rigidly secured to the forward ends of arms 21 which are fulcrumed at their rearward ends as at 22' to the kick boards 23 of the bowlin alley 24. -The arrangement is such, as w11 be observed',.that the carrier is .positioned directlyover the rearward end of the alley and is adapted for pivotal movement towith the arms 21 arelevers 26 pivotally secured at 25' intermediate their ends to the views. Provided at the forward ends of the levers 26 are weights 2S adjustably mounted .wardand. from the same Cooperating thereon and secured in-positions ,of adjustment by means of set' screws 29. The arms 21 are offset as shown so as to provide clearance for the levers 26 and the forward ends of said levers are offset to provide clearance for the weights 28 carried thereby. The arrangement is such that vthe levers 26 together with the weights arranged thereon will: be adapted to exert such. a leverage upon the" arms 21 as to be adapted to normallly hold the carrier in elevated position as shown in Fig. i In using the device, upon the tenth pin being placed in position upon the carrier. the influence of said levers and weights will be overcome or over-balanced so that, upon replacing of the last pin in positibn, the latter will automatically svyling' downwardly to its lower position as own in Fig. 7. i
In the operation of the pin setter then, it will be seenthat the carrier will. normally. assume an elevated position over the alley.
In order to set the pins, all that is required of the operator} is to arrange the same upon the carrier resting upon the plate 6 with their lower or base ends projecting into the sockets 5 as shown in Fig. 6. The carrier will be held in elevated position by the levers 26 and weightsrarried thereby until the last pin has been placed upon the carrier, when the influence of said levers and weights will be overcome and over-balanced, the carrier swinging automatically to its lowered posis tion. As the carrier reaches its lowered positionthe detent 18 is tripped which releases the pin rocking frame 8-9, said frame causing the rocking of the pinsto vertical position so as. to permit of the same passing through the sockets 5. The upper ends 0 the pins will be clamped between the bars 8 and the guide members 7 directly over the spots of the alley, being released by the operator engagingthe rearward bar 8 of said frame and slightly retracting the same. Upon release of the pins from the carrier thelatter is automatically swung to elevated position under the influence of the weighted ,levers'26. The frame 8-9 is then drawn rcarwardly and downwardly by the operator to its initial posltion where the same will .he held by the detent which is adapted to automatically engage therewith when at its lowered position. This being done the setter is again in position for the pin-setting operation. i
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invent-ion into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I,. therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but
desire to avail myself of such. variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
